This is a superb house in a breathtaking location. Our group consisted of a family of ten, spanning three generations, some of whom were visiting India for the first time. The owner answered all our pre-visit questions in a very helpful way, including providing directions to the property and suggestions for how best to spend the time. We didn't experience any difficulties in booking the house or finding our way to it, helped by having the local host's contact details.
The local host, Abhi, was waiting for us as we entered the island to guide us to the house and welcomed us very warmly in a traditional manner. The listing description was faultless and the loveliness of the house, gardens, swimming pool and location exceeded everyone's expectations. The neighbourhood is peaceful and unspoilt, with the neighbours and island residents warm and friendly, especially towards the children. The river views are delightful, and the local waterways best explored by the canoe hired for the purpose. Although the weather was hot and humid, there were glorious breezes and plenty of shade, and the large, perfectly maintained swimming pool was a godsend.
Abhi and his family cooked breakfast and dinner for us, with a wide variety of wonderful Kerala dishes, always different, and with sufficient options offered to ensure that all four children (aged 6 and under) also enjoyed every meal.
Our visits to Cochi and to Allappuzha (formerly Alleppey), as well as our return trip to Bengaluru, were facilitated in comfort and ease through Abhi's travel company, vehicles and connections. The facilities and services provided were of a very high standard, and Abhi was very helpful in suggesting how we could best spend our time (e.g. exploring the neighbourhood through walks, ferry trips and canoe).
The high standard of furnishings, equipment and decor in the house, as well as the size of all the rooms, added to the air of luxury and comfort. Externally, the provision of shaded sitting areas and garden trees, plants and flowers, as well as the river outlook, encouraged a deep feeling of relaxation and ease, whilst the children were free to run around and play football. As the property is self-contained and private, and with the local host leaving us to ourselves between breakfast and dinner, we were able to experience a perfectly restful week together. The grounds and house were kept immaculately clean and tidy, and we were able to wash and dry our clothes efficiently with the help of a washing machine and outside clothes lines.
In summary, this house is perfect for up to ten people wanting a comfortable, relaxing, and peaceful holiday in a friendly, unspoilt part of Kerala. Particularly outstanding features are the attentiveness of Abhi and his family, their cooking, the quality of accommodation, the beauty of the surroundings and, last but not least, the swimming pool.
