Our stay with CJ and Mary Ellen was fantastic. The hosts were helpful, the breakfasts were delicious, the accommodations were clean, and they were incredibly welcoming of our young children. Beyond being good hosts, they are providing 2 critical services to the larger public: (1) they have created and tirelessly maintain a desert oasis that helps support native plants and wildlife, including dozens of bird feeders, and (2) they provide guests with a fountain of knowledge about the space they maintain while encouraging kids to observe and explore their surroundings. In providing these important services, they are true citizen scientists. They are intimately engaged with their surroundings, and profoundly aware of its rapid changes. We are lucky to have stayed with them at their oasis.

We were warmly welcomed and made to feel at home immediately. The listing was if anything understated. The birds were spectacular and the breakfast was great. I wish I had those muffins now! We are definitely planning to be back there in the near future. CJ and MaryEllen went out of their way to show us the area and were extremely accommodating. 5 stars out of 5

We came into town for the Tucson Marathon and stayed with Chris and MaryEllen at their quaint desert retreat tucked back in a valley amidst a healthy wildlife habitat. It was truly special, and we think it was the best way to experience the short time that we had in Oro Valley. Its proximity to the finish line was an added benefit and they allowed me to freshen up after a very long run. The bed was cozy and they even had robes! We loved everything about it, including their crafty holiday decorations! They were excellent hosts, offering breakfast and coffee and anything else we needed. Their knowledge of the natural surroundings and trails in the area make this a one-of-kind bed and breakfast in the Tucson area! We highly recommend this place for your next vacation to southern Arizona, whether you plan to hike, bike, run a marathon, or just explore the region!

WOW is an apt name for this place because you will be wowed by the desert oasis CJ and MaryEllen have created. An incredible variety of birds and plants and animals! While resting on one of the paths, we were treated to a family of Javelina who showed up looking for food. There are lots of patio chairs where you can sit and just watch birds (69 feeders and lots of hummingbirds) or you can hike or bike. The accommodations are very clean and comfortable and the hosts are so friendly and generous. They treated us to some of their yummy homemade wine and breakfast was fantastic. Highly recommended!

"Graceful reintroduction of mankind into his environment…"
My partner MaryEllen and I strive to achieve this, the motto of our small education/science/environment 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Come share time with us on our little oasis. We are guides for Tucson Audubon Society as well as expert route-finding adventurers on mountain bikes on the trails behind the house, in the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Our place is certified wildlife habitat. We are always working on keeping clear pathways, trimming flowers in the Pollinator/Butterfly Gardens and removing invasive species. Don't be surprised to be greeted with a 'dirty garden hand' upon your arrival, but, rest assured, we 'clean-up' well!

There are twenty-four chairs spread throughout the patios, porches and pathways. Many spots to just sit and 'be'.

We are pretty relaxed people, our focus is getting people outside. Come share some time with us…
