This big stone house has been built between XVI and XVII century. Close to Cinque Terre and Versilia, with 7 rooms, 4 bathrooms, a big kitchen, 2 dining rooms, 2 terraces and outside locations with chairs and sun umbrellas. Walks, riding, canoeing..
Catognano is a small but traditional village in the Lunigiana, Tuscany. It is located at handful kilometers (an 30 minutes ride) from both the beautiful Cinque Terre and the Versilia and its little costal towns such as Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi and Marina di Pietrasanta.
The big stone house has been built between XVI and XVII century. It has three interconnected levels (floors), providing space enough for one or two families or guests. In total there are 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms (one of this outside), a spacious kitchen, a living room, a dining room, a terrace and a little piazza.
The ground floor entrance leads into a spacious dining room that is connected to a spacious and equipped kitchen. From here there is access to a cozy studio, which was built out of the villa’s gradile - the place that used to be devoted to roasting chestnut. From the studio you can step into a large bedroom (with a private bathroom with shower, a king size bed and the possibility for an extra bed) surrounded by walls made of traditional stones, antique ceiling coffer and a stunning wood parquet. On this floor there is also access to a beautiful half-covered terrace, where there is an old wood-burning oven that was used to be the only (and so public) oven in the entire village. Two bathrooms are on this level, which is available to be rented separately from the rest of the property (NOTE: in this case the kitchen would be shared with the other guests)
On the second level a spacious and beautiful living room with fresco on the walls works as connecting room to the top floor, where there are two bathrooms, a dining room and four bedrooms (one with 3 single beds, one with 2 single beds and the possibility for an extra-bed, a single room and a double room with a king size bed) with cotto tiles floor and antique ceilings coffer.
Surrounding the house there is a spacious stone terrace allowing sun throughout the whole day, with views reaching down to the valleys. The landscape is filled with fruit trees and secular walnuts trees, providing shade & solace during the hotter hours of the day. In the spring time the creeks in the area offer a great opportunity for rafting. The fall is the perfect time for berries, mushrooms and walnuts picking. Catognano is also ideal for those who love to horse riding.
The villa is located in one of the most authentic part of Tuscany. This safe and popular area provides substantial space to neighboring homes but at the same time offers plenty of privacy. From the house you have access to endless excursions. Because of Catognano’s strategic position between the Tuscan Riviera and the mountains, you can decide either to hike the beautiful Passo del Lagastrello, Passo del Cerveto, Alpi Apuane and Carrara marble caves or to visit the amazing seashore around Liguria’s Cinque Terre (Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore, Portovenere and Lerici) or Tuscany’s Versilia. Also, in an hour time you can easily drive to the most beautiful cities in Italy such as Pisa, Lucca, Livorno, Genoa, La Spezia, Camogli, Portofino, Santa Margherita and Rapallo.
The house has a wood-stove system of heating and a couple of fireplaces. There are no radiators.
The house could either be rented entirely or partially (single level/rooms). During the stay the host (or somebody in her behalf) will be present to provide information and help the guests for any request they might need. It is also possible to get an extra service for the organization of meals in the original Tuscan tradition.
The minimum stay (both for the entire hose or single areas) is 4 days.
Gli ospiti posso richiedere colazione e/o cena.

Guests could request dinner or breakfast.
I'm a journalist and I'm quite used to host friends in our house: five sons (and their friends) give you an idea of how to manage it...
Some years ago, we restored a bakery in the centre of Milan and we adapted it as our home.
Now, sons grew up and the house gives us the opportunity to host people coming to Milan: that's why we have decided to join airbnb.
We'll be waiting for you and if we won't be there, because of work, "kids" will take care of you.
Animals are welcome.
Our guests could use the kitchen (if they need it) for breakfast or lunch.
Guests are kindly requested to inform their exact arrival time. This is particularly important because since we all work, we need to figure out exactly when and who is going to be at home in time for your arrival in order to hand over the keys and give you all the information you need. In case of flight delays or any other change of plans (e.g. a not expected trip to Bergamo since you landed at Orio al Serio Airport...or in case you decide to take a walk in Piazza del Duomo before coming home).
Well, please let us know, because one of us is at home waiting for you!
