Shawe-Taylor's Old School House is a wonderful place for golf, walking and relaxation. It has a wonderful setting located batween the market town of Gort and the scenic seaside harbour village of Kinvara which is on the Wild Atlantic Way. The name Tierneevin is an Irish word meaning 'A Beautiful Place', so the name speaks for itself.

Жилье

This is a most luxurious building and we are very proud of the finish provided. We are certain that our discerning guests will enjoy holidaying in this beautiful part of Ireland. Charming period school house (ca. 1820), recently restored to its original splendour. Eco friendly interior finished with breathable products such as lime mortar on walls, pitch pine and traditional flag on floors. Insulated throughout, the schoolhouse has a high energy rating. With its cathedral style ceilings, wooden beams and a mezzanine/balcony bedroom, it is beautifully presented with antique furniture throughout, adding enormous warmth and character. This is a wonderful place to get away from all the stress in an area of outstanding natural beauty and geology.

Ideally suited for a golfing and/or walking holiday. Gort Golf club is literally on your doorstep with very reasonable rates available, and an excellent clubhouse and restaurant. This superb 18 hole Championship Golf Course is set on 160 acres of picturesque parkland, overlooking the Burren and the Clare Hills. The Golf Course was designed by the 1989 Ryder Cup hero Christy O'Connor. It consists of four outstanding par-3's, a testing par-5 ninth and a terrific par-4, carved through by Burren stone and natural waterways.
From the property you can take a delightful 3 mile circular walk, which runs through the Burren landscape. The scenery, birds and wildlife, botany, geology and archaeology - all can be enjoyed on this short walk. Also close by is Kilmacduagh Monastery with several churches and a round tower. The Monastery was established in the 7th century by Saint Colman Mac Duagh, hence the name Kilmacduagh (the church of the son of Duac).
Kinvara and Ballyvaughan are nearby fishing and farming villages both on the edge of Galway Bay.
For shopping there is Galway City and Ennis, both only 20 minutes' drive from the property.
There are many fine restaurants close by in Gort and Kinvara. You can get further information under (URL HIDDEN)

Wonderful Location
Guest Dan (West Chester, Pa USA) Date of stay 09/01/13Review Submitted 10/01/13
Our stay was so memorable. It was a great location for jumping off and visiting many sites. The house itself was spacious and quaint. Each room had charm and was decorated beautifully. We enjoyed each moment there. Unfortunately, we did not take advantage of the relaxed atmosphere and were on the move constantly. Thank you for sharing such a memorable home and opportunity for an adventure in your beautiful country.

Excellent Stay!
Guest Lydia M. Date of stay 07/13/13Review Submitted 08/13/13
Loved the house! John and Brid have done an excellent job renovated the old school house. John met us the first day and he was as nice as could be. We received a true Irish greeting!

It was just my husband and I that stayed in the house, but it could easily accommodate 4 more people comfortably.

The town of Gort, is a great hub for exploring the Western part of Ireland. I highly recommend visiting the town of Kinvara, (20 minutes away) a quaint fishing village, and also home to Dunguaire Castle where they hold banquets dinners inside.

In Gort, there is also a train station that will take you into Galway City, which we fell in love with, and it also gives you a break from driving. :)

We loved feeding carrots to the two donkeys (which we named Honky and Tonky) in the morning.

Highly recommend the stay, before we even left, we were already discussing when to return. :)

John and Brid Casey have done an excellent job renovating this old school house. The pictures do not begin to do it justice. It is MORE than we expected by far. So lovely and comfortable. It is also convenient to most of western Ireland. The Caseys are excellent hosts, providing so much information, and they are charming as well. We highly recommend this home. We were there a month.

Wonderful Visit ---
Guest SF Bay Area (Walnut Creek, California) Date of stay 05/18/13Review Submitted 06/09/13
The four of us were delighted with the School House. It has been beautifully constructed and restored and was the perfect beginning for a three-week visit to Ireland. From the dining table, we watched the new lambs next door over breakfast, explored the beautiful beaches and countryside around Gort and Galway during the day and loved returning to the School House for dinner and a cozy fire. The Cliffs of Moher are beautiful but The Burren with its tombs, rocky mountains and ancient churches was our favorite. We stopped for lunch at the little harbor town of Kinvarra and even visited the larger town of Ennis. The Gallery Cafe was our favorite Gort stop-off. It was great to meet John and Brid (and Tots) who were so gracious during our visit, even arranging to return a forgotten item to us before our departure at Shannon Airport. Hoping to return again ... the California group

Highly Recommend This Charming (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)
Guest Mary (Silver Spring, Maryland, USA) Date of stay 05/19/12Review Submitted 03/30/13
My family of 6 (we and our 4 twenty-something children) thoroughly enjoyed staying in this fantastic, charming, spacious, fully functional home. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Everything we needed was provided. The kitchen was great - had everything we needed to make our own meals. We especially enjoyed spending evenings in the great room by the fireplace, having breakfasts on the back patio, and wandering over to the thousand+ year old monastery ruins about 1/2 mile up the road (Kilmacduagh). Our only regret was that we were out of the house every day driving and sightseeing, so didn't get to spend more time relaxing at the house. Every one of us (including our college aged children) fully recommends this place for your stay in Ireland.

historic school house
Guest Mabel (Alna, Maine, USA) Date of stay 11/23/12Review Submitted 12/13/12
We only stayed at this wonderful house for 2 nights, but wished we could be there longer. It was so comfortable, immaculate, well-equipped, warm, and had everything we needed. John was so helpful recommending restaurants, and places to visit. There were opportunities for walking in the area, and many other sights to visit including the Burren and Cliffs of Moher and Liscannor. We definitely would recommend this place to anyone. The booklet that John had assembled showing maps and things to visit was especially helpful. Thanks again.

A Wonderful Experience
Guest QM (Georgia, USA) Date of stay 10/01/12Review Submitted 10/11/12
This rental is fully deserving of a five star rating. Pictures, although accurate, cannot do justice to the charm of this home.
First, the location. Gort is a great location to base out of to see the west coast. The town center and nearby town of Kinvarra offer all the amenities we needed. There were terrific restaurants
( Gallery Cafe, Keoughs for fish chowder, O"Grady's) a well stocked grocery, convenient ATM, and of course, fine pubs. The house is close to both towns, a great golf course, and located near the highway to enable seeing the Cliffs of Moher and other sights. We took a bus from the main square to Galway for one day, 40 minutes and 10 Euros return fare right to center city..
The setting of the house is fantastic. The two sweet donkeys in the adjacent yard were fun to visit and they loved the tiny apples we offered them. The area is very quiet, except for the cows, and easy to find, even on the darkest of nights.
The house was much larger than we had anticipated. Our group of one couple and two singles enjoyed having our own rooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was fully stocked and we were able to cook meals without wanting for anything. We enjoyed the fireplace in the living room a lot, and spent our late nights playing scrabble and cards around the dining table. The house was surprisingly warm on our chilly October nights so we barely ran the central heat.
The remodeling job on this old school house is remarkable. Beautiful wooden trim, stained glass windows, natural stone floors. Large windows let the sunlight flood in and offer a wonderful view of the area nearby. The antique furniture and very soft bed linens were a pleasure to enjoy. The showers were all excellent and plenty of hot water was always available.
We have rented many properties through (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), throughout the world, and this is one of the best. The price was an incredible bargain for the space, setting and amenities. I would definitely rent this property again, in fact, it would be a strong factor in bringing us back to Ireland again.

Wonderful Stay
Guest Anonymous Date of stay 07/13/12Review Submitted 07/25/12
Our family of six (four adults, two children) had a wonderful time staying at the schoolhouse. The owner was a terrific help and a lot of fun. We had one snag while there and he immediately took care of it. The house is just as described -- beautiful, clean, warm, spacious and comfortable. The location was ideal for us, too. While out of town (read: quiet and peaceful) it is close enough to everything you could want/need (pubs, restaurants, grocery stores, playgrounds, golf). And it served us well as a base for several day trips in the area. Finally, yes, the donkeys are as described -- a huge hit with the kids. We would highly recommend the house to any of our friends.

The Highlight of Our Trip
Guest Patrick (Durham, North Carolina, United States) Date of stay 06/23/12Review Submitted 07/05/12
It is rare that an accommodation excedes its description, but this school house is one of those exceptions. We stayed there for one week with four adults and two young children (5 and 1.5 yrs). The home is secluded yet an easy driving distance to many wonderful places to visit. We had a very rainy week, but spending extra time at this house was always an appealing option. Also, we had not planned on spending a lot of time in the nearby Burren itself but for John's enthusiastic recommendations. Luckily we didn't miss out on this unique region right on our doorstep. The home itself is spacious and cozy. Our urban kids could not get over having a pair of donkeys at the back doorstep all week long. We ate at Keogh's Pub and Linnanes's Lobster house in nearby Kinvara and would strongly recommend both. I wouldn't hesitate staying hear again and hope to someday!

Wonderful house for both relaxing and making day trips
Guest Jon and Carole (Chapel Hill, NC) Date of stay 08/08/11Review Submitted 09/03/11
We very much enjoyed staying in Gort at this beautiful house. Our family of four (two college-age daughters) used this as a terrific base from which to make great day-trips, including the Coole Park and the Yeats tower (the latter closed due to flood damage, but can walkabout outside). the Cliffs of Mohrer, the Aran Islands, Galway, Connemara, the Barrens, and Kinvarra traditional boat festival. The house is also a wonderful place to just hang out when you need to relax!
John and Brid were very helpful and recommended several terrific places to visit. Some of our favorites included the Gallery Cafe in Gort, the Barrens Perfumery, and Linnane's seafood restaurant in NewQuay.

A beautiful house in a lovely location in the tiny hamlet of Tierneevin. John extended a warm welcome and was there to meet us when we arrived. You would certainly need a car to enjoy the benefits of the area but the driving around the roads is easy. There were lots of places to go within a short distance. There are good supermarkets nearby in Gort (3miles away) and in Kinvara. The house was warm and cosy. My son who is 10 loved the balcony bedroom on a mezzanine overlooking the living area, and enjoyed feeding the donkeys. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped and there is an out-house for laundry which we found useful. The wifi worked well although we were asked to limit our use and not to download films etc A big thank you John for a warm welcome to a beautiful part of the world.

If this home were for sale, we would buy it in a heartbeat! The house is even more beautiful in person. The slate, wood and hardwood features throughout were a sight to behold. We could easily see the great care that was taken to remodel this school house. One of the features most loved by our mother was the two resident donkeys in the backyard. She enjoyed feeding them carrots every morning and every evening when we returned. The house was so spacious for the five of us. We enjoyed having our own bedrooms and bathrooms (2 couples and 1 mama) and took advantage of the two large soaking tubs in two of the four bathrooms. The beds were comfortable, the rooms and linens were immaculately clean and there was plenty of hot water for all five of us. The upstairs bedroom with one double/queen bed was a loft and therefore open to the noise coming from the living room and dining room below. However, this didn't disturb our mother since we all went to bed around the same time. The kitchen was precious with a large variety of teacups and teapots on display. We enjoyed a light breakfast here every morning with the French press for coffee, electric kettle for tea, and toaster for bread. We bought some bread, Nutella, ham and cheese at the local grocery store in Gort to add to the carrot cake left for us in the fridge. The kitchen seemed well equipped for preparing lunch and dinner, but we took day trips that kept us from having other meals at the house. Most importantly, this house served as a great base for exploring other towns. Gort is lovely and we had a delicious lunch in town before checking in. However, we chose this location based on wanting to take day trips to destinations that were 1 - 2 hours away. On the first day, we went to Bunratty Castle and had dinner at Durty Nelly's. The next day, we drove to Galway, but stopped for lunch in Kinvarra on the way. Another day, we drove a little over 2 hours to go to Kylemore Abbey and then stopped in Clifden on the way back. On our last day, we drove 1 hour to the Cliffs of Moher and Doolin, and stopped in Ennis on the way home. It was such a relaxing and peaceful home and John was a great host. Although we weren't able to meet him in person, he arranged for his neighbor to greet and check us in. He was easy to communicate with and very patient in answering all of my questions in preparing for our visit. He sent very detailed directions that made it easy for us to find this house in the countryside. We couldn't have asked for a better location and house to stay in during our vacation. Next time we come to Ireland, we look forward to staying here again.

We absolutely loved the our stay at the School House. The house is well furnished and located in a beautiful part of Ireland. It was a perfect staging area for my daughter and her bridesmaids to get ready for her wedding in nearby Ennis. Thanks to John and Brid for sharing their beautiful home with us.

The Old School House is the perfect base for a family, travelling around north Clare and south Galway. It's ideally located between Gort and Kinvara - with the Burren on your doorstep. Not to mention the two donkeys on the back doorstep! We had an amazing stay - such a quaint and cosy home - and our hosts, John and Bríd, really thought of everything. Highly recommended.

John's house is the perfect location. Easy access to Galway and the Burren. The house is very warm and inviting. Plenty of space for a family to enjoy time together by the fire or cooking in the kitchen.
