We are temporarily renting our home (we used to be regular hosts) while on vacation. Act fast --it is a limited time offer! If you're open to cat-sitting our stellar cat during your stay, we will offer a nightly discount too, but no pressure! :)
**Please message me through Airbnb to inquire before sending a reservation request, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for your interest!!**
A large, two bedroom apartment with bay windows overlooking a courtyard, in an amazing 100 year old Victorian building right in the heart of Oakland's popular Temescal district. Only 2 blocks from MacArthur BART --the main transit hub of the local subway-- means you're 15 minutes from San Francisco by train.
The main bedroom is huge, with a comfortable bed, outfitted with clean sheets, and a down comforter and pillows. The room also boasts a desk, built in dresser, and large closet you can hang clothes in. Bookshelves are well stocked, if you're in need of a read.
The second bedroom is smaller (it is our son's room) and has a twin bed with new mattress. The bed houses a spare mattress underneath if you'd rather sleep on the floor than in a kid's bed ;)
The apartment itself is beautiful, located on the top floor so there's no one above you, and shares no walls with any other apartments. It has hardwood floors and gets wonderful light. Be warned --it is on the 4th floor and there is no elevator, so be prepared if you're bringing a heavy suitcase! There is a washroom with tub and shower, and separate water closet, a large living room and well stocked kitchen which you are completely welcome to use to its fullest.
The apartment has wireless internet, a DVD/Blu-Ray player, and an Apple TV.
The neighborhood itself is wonderful --full of turn of the century bungalows, great streets for walking, many awesome cafes, excellent coffee (Blue Bottle, Sightglass, Bicycle Coffee and Four Barrel are all served within a few block radius), incredible restaurants (Dona Tomas, Pizzaiolo, Commis, Burma Superstar, Homeroom, Hog's Apothecary, Bakesale Betty, Genova Delicatessen) are within walking distance. Piedmont Avenue is a 10 minute walk to the east, and at the end of Piedmont Avenue the incredible Mountain View Cemetery, designed by Olmstead (who designed Central Park) is not to be missed.
There is a terrific bike shop, Manifesto, up the street that rents bikes by the day and a secure bike room for bike storage on the building's ground floor. Street parking is usually easy, and bus lines run up and down Telegraph, only a block away. California College of the Arts is about a mile away, and UC Berkeley is 2.5 miles away. On Sundays we have a really great organic farmers market just a ten minute walk to the North.
We love our apartment and our neighborhood, and I hope you will too. I think its the perfect place to rest and regroup while visiting the fantastic Bay Area. Even if you're planning to visit San Francisco primarily, staying in Oakland is an economical and culturally worthwhile choice. The East Bay has a lot of cool spots to see (The antique pin ball machine museum in Alameda with all the machines set to "free play," First Friday's huge gathering of open art galleries and music, the Antique Flea Market the first weekend of the month) and gives you a chance to move beyond the standard tourist's path through San Francisco.
Please feel free to email me with any questions or requests. Thanks for reading and I hope we'll be meeting soon.

We are a couple in our early thirties who used to rent to others through Airbnb all the time! We have a kid now and so our spare room is usually tied up but we loved having guests, and sharing our home. We adore our city and can point you in the right direction if you're looking for someplace to see or something to do. I'm an Oakland native, so thrilled to share our love of this area with others. I love the Bay Area's incredible culinary scene and have great affection for the East Bay's amazing restaurants and will definitely make recommendations if you're in need. We keep a very clean house!
