GENERAL SITUATION

Stylish loft overlooking the Place aux Huiles and the World famous Vieux Port, just a few steps away from the departure point of the Ferry Boat on the Quai Rive Neuve, in the historic heart of Marseille!

Ideal for couples wishing to visit Marseille, or businesswomen and businessmen passing by for short or long stays.

THE BUILDING

The apartment is an old sail loft attic on the top floor (4th) of a three centuries old historic building in the district of Les Arcenaulx, where galleys were built in the time of Louis XIV. This ancient building bears the distinguished marks of this era with its huge arched doorways and old staircase reminiscent of a castle dungeon, evocative remains of another time... you’ll start diving into Marseille’s history right upon arrival!

A GUIDED TOUR OF THE APARTMENT

This beautiful loft has a total surface area of 55 square meters, to which must be added a mezzanine of about 10 square meters. You enter the apartment through a long hallway, which has a large wardrobe, an antique coat rack and a small dresser to leave your clothes and belongings upon arrival. The toilet and bathroom (equipped with full-size bath and shower) are separated from each other at each end of the entrance hallway, away from the central room for more privacy. Down the hall you come across a spacious, bright and airy lounge with a comfortable corner sofa, a writing desk in another corner, and a dining area in front of the window, all connected to a beautiful and fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator, washing machine, mini-oven, microwave, gas stove, coffee maker, kettle and toaster). The kitchen includes a bar where you can have breakfast, coffee or a drink while watching the boats out the window. All windows have double-glazing to maintain a peaceful and quiet atmosphere. The view is captivating: Leaning out of the kitchen or lounge window you come face to face with the Vieux Port on the right, with the old neighborhood of Le Panier and its bell tower in the background, and to the left you can see the emblematic cathedral Notre Dame de la Garde, the city’s magnificent and most famous landmark, on top of the hill behind the historic buildings of the Cours Estiennes d’Orves. Above the central room is a mezzanine under the roof, which has a large double bed (140x200cm), a large dresser always free to store your clothes and a small desk to read, work or simply enjoy the bird’s-eye view over the Place aux Huiles. You access this cozy little nest by a wooden staircase. Beautiful ocher stones arranged in arches around the windows of the living room and kitchen, large wooden beams dating from centuries back and a skylight-facing roof tiles over the mezzanine complete the picture: a charming and airy apartment, quiet and always sunny.

Что доступно гостю
Leaning out of the window, looking over yachts’ masts and colorful fishing boats, you will be directly immersed in the simple and playful atmosphere of this typically Mediterranean port. The sun slips quietly through the skylight of the bedroom in the morning and sets on the port in front of the living room in a panache of reds and light in the late afternoon. At nightfall, sea spray mingles with cries of sea gulls, clinking glasses on the dock at the cocktail hour and light notes of music rising from the Pelle-Mêle, the mythical jazz club of Marseille opposite the apartment on the Place aux Huiles. The Pain Quotidien just below the apartment across the street offers a large brunch until late in the afternoon, or just warm croissants and fresh bread to take home for those who prefer to stay perched above the harbor to enjoy the first rays of the morning. In the comfort, calm and authentic charm of this "perch" on the Vieux Port, you will feel out of the hustle and bustle of the city and yet so close to the sea, boats and teeming urban life around you. A stylish retreat for a great city holiday!

The apartment is on the top floor of an ancient stone building overlooking historic Place aux Huiles in the heart of the city’s most popular tourist area. This is a pedestrian area full of good restaurants of all kinds, outdoor cafes, bars and shops. From there everything is close and accessible by foot, or by boat...the elegant Cours Estiennes d’Orves, the Vieux Port with its fish market every morning on the Quai des Belges and regular shuttles to the If Castle and Frioul islands – the famous setting of Alexandre Dumas’ novel The Count of Montecristo, the charming traditional neighborhood of Le Panier on the opposite side and brand new Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations (Mucem) at the end of the port, the famous theater of La Criée at the end of the Quai Rive Neuve, the Pharo Palace which overlooks the city from the top of its hill, the Opera House and its lively square that gets busy during summer evenings, the shops and malls downtown, the colorful market of Noailles, etc. This stylish holiday apartment is ideally situated for exploring the little marvels of Marseille without hassle and without a car.

Born and bred in the French Riviera, passionate of Mediterranean cities and communities, I’ve settled down in Marseille after university studies that brought me to Paris, London, Buenos Aires, and the mountains of Peru and Morocco. I work as an international expert on migration issues in Europe and the Mediterranean. Marseille has become my little gateway to adventure at sea: I sail and paddle as often as I can, notably in stand up paddle along the rocky shores of Malmousque and the Frioul islands, which I highly recommend. I also like dancing Tango on the occasion of the outdoor summer balls organized in the streets of Marseille. In Marseille for more than 5 years now, I travel very often, for work but also for my girlfriend who lives in Cologne, Germany. I split my time between Cologne, Marseille and my frequent work-related trips to Maghreb and European cities. My apartment in Place aux Huiles has thus become a landing spot that remains free most of the time for all those who, like me, would come to explore the mysteries of Marseille and enjoy its very particular charms.
