What a complete and utter fabrication of events.
On your arrival to my Cottage, you were greeted by me, I explained how things worked and where things were. I said if there is anything you needed or anything was wrong please let me know night or day as I am only 2 minuets away.
The cottage has only been in operation since February this year. It’s new for me as is everything thing in it. What’s not new to me is my entire working career has been spent in travel and tourism. I place customer service and satisfaction second to nothing! I go out of my way to ensure people enjoy their time there. I want people to be comfortable in a home from home environment. This being so much so, that in this short period of time, I have had 3 return bookings for the cottage. This I feel speaks volumes.
You arrived on Thursday, I had no contact from you until you rang on Sunday lunchtime telling me you had, had “ a little accident” with spilt red wine, you then told me about the water not being sufficient, the water pressure on the Sunday morning as I had been informed was low in the village. I explained this to you, we were all affected. It was restored to normal later that day. It was never stated this was a common occurrence you also stated that the shower was very weak but you had managed to run a bath.
You showed no respect for my property, the 3m x 2m rug was ruined by you, my coffee mugs were used as ash trays full of cigarette ends left outside in the patio area, the grill was left in a disgusting state full of grease, the kitchen bin full of pizza boxes, left over food and wine bottles. Who did you think was going to clean up your mess.?
At no point did you apologise or show any remorse for your, quote “little accident” it happened you told me the night before, some12 hours later when you told me about it on the phone it had well and truly set in. A stain of over 2 foot in length right across the centre of the rug. I explained we would see what could be done when you returned. You stated you would not be back until 6 or 7 that evening. I said we would see you on your return, I said, if the stain would not come out I had no option but to charge for a new one. At no point were your threatened or made to feel frightened. The rug was new in February this year, you were the 16th person to stay at the cottage. 2 months use only. April we closed the cottage for a holiday.
You were most indignant that it was an accident and with a bit of cleaning it would be fine and why should you have to pay at all?
It was also explained to you that I had guests arriving the following day, it would not be fair to ask anyone to stay with such a badly stained rug in appearance, it had to be put right.
At 14.15 you sent me a rather curt text stating your holiday had been ruined!! The money was on the kitchen table and key was in the door. You left the cottage unlocked with the key in the door. I got back there about 1 hour later. To find the door open.
On that same day I sent Airbnb a full report on the events along with photographs of the damage. I had a swift response from them.
I would not recommend you to anyone who has a property to let. It’s unfortunate this whole incident happened, but your review on events is totally incorrect. Hence the need for the honesty of my reply.
You entered a very nicely furnished, clean cottage, you left a ruined rug and a uncleaned mess behind you. I think if you read the reviews on the cottage you’ll see everyone has been very satisfied with their stay.
