Margaret is a trooper. She shared, "We had a wonderful 2 day drive up having so much fun seeing beautiful Michigan, that time got away from us." Arriving from Oklahoma at nearly MIDNIGHT, she was able to handle a challenge with the Masterlock when we spoke on the phone the next morning and talked her through it.
Thank goodness we have a back up plan in place for accessing the property in the Cottage Use Packet we forward to each guest prior to their arrival.
I feel so sorry for Margaret. Thinking she was only left to enjoy her vacation. When I checked in with her, she wrote, "All is great here - so peaceful and beautiful. Lovely cottage. Thank you so much!"
But alas, one of her traveling companions took ill and required hospitalization. Thank goodness for the good care she received at the McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. She shared, her friend "stayed about 27 hours. She was very impressed with the skill and care of the staff. " We are certainly hoping for the good health and full recovery of Margaret's friend.
It must be so frustrating when a vacation takes an unexpected turn; it can make EVERYTHING seem so disappointing.
Margaret, I am so sorry you believe the description misrepresents the cottage. We say we are a cozy, 1000 sq ft cottage, on a hill in the woods overlooking Mullet Lake in NORTHERN MICHIGAN, and that is what we are. We don't say it is brand new, and and clearly the cozy "worn" sofas are not your taste. I'll take your advice and take new photos, thanks for the suggestion.
I will also share your feedback with the cleaning team that comes between each group of guests (for your arrival the property was cleaned two days prior). We looked diligently for the mold about which you speak. Thanks for clarifying that it was on the inside of the toilet tank; we found it when we took off the toilet tank lid. Thanks for noticing; we'll add that location to our regular punch list of places to clean. I admit it is not a place I look when I use the toilet, but I'm grateful to you for pointing it out.
We have the cottage sprayed for insects monthly in the summer, just because it is NORTHERN MICHIGAN. I'm so glad you weren't booked during Fish Fly season.
Turning off the refrigerator will cause it to defrost, saturating the kitchen rug. The cleaning team was able to clean it adequately before the next arrival and turn on the frig in plenty of time.
Yes, the door for the water heater cabinet removes for access to the hot water heate.
It is attached by magnets. I'm not sure why it would have been necessary to remove it, but I'm guessing it seemed puzzling to replace it. I And, yes, one of the bathroom vanity drawers was washed and let out to air dry in the kitchen. I am so sorry it didn't get replaced to its rightful place. I recognize that was disturbing.
There are two firepits: one is a commercially made aluminum ring; the other a natural stone NORTHERN MICHIGAN fire circle. We couldn't understand the "broken" part of either, but clearly something didn't seem right to you. I do hope you didn't forgo a night around the campfire as a result.
I understand when a vacation takes an unexpected turn, it can make EVERYTHING seem like a disaster. I truly believe two things: the idea of a rustic cabin in the woods was a romantic notion; for this group a brand spanking new condo would have been a better choice; AND the frustration of one's best laid plans being interrupted begs for someone to blame.
We'll be heading up to the cottage, to enjoy one of the last gasps of summer, next week. We can't wait.
