A quiet, beautifully lit, sanctuary in the middle of Portland's peninsula. The Art Studio is on the ground floor of a 100 year old church. It's previous use was as a painter's studio and there is still some paint on the radiant heat, polished, concrete floor. The room is full of art by Maine artists. Your host is an artist and makes the rest of the building his home and work space. For the use of guest and pets there is a small, fenced yard accessible from the rental.
Park your car because you won't need it. In minutes you can to walk to the many restaurants and bars as well as brewery and distillery tasting rooms. Less than 20 minute walk to the Portland Museum of Art, Portland Stage Company, and the State Theater through the center of the downtown. And you'll be only one block from Portland's historic performing arts facility Merrill Auditorium.

I live and work in my home (except for occasionally teaching skiing in winter) so I'm almost always available to answer questions or help with recommendations.

Every Tuesday at 6PM there is a yoga practice upstairs ($10) and there are always extra mats. Once a month there is a house concert ($10) in your host's living room. The performers are sometimes local but often are touring. Whether jazz, folk, middle eastern, or singer songwriters the shows start at 7PM and end by 10PM. The decibels are kept low, and no dancing.
I am a photographer who has been providing affordable services to artists, galleries, and museums since 1988. I bought this former church in 1990 and am endlessly renovating it into my home and work space. During the snow season I teach skiing and am a certified telemark instructor. I host a weekly yoga practice in my living room and feature house concerts once a month. Passerbys tell me my yard looks like a farm. I like to think that's because of all the vegetable gardens but it may be because I don't mow frequently. Same with my hair.
