Open the wrought iron gate and step through the wall of honey suckle to find Rosie, a 1934 Romany showman’s wagon. Rosie would have been home to itinerant fairground workers and performers after the turn of the century when steam engines became available to tow their equipment and caravans.
Decorated in original Romany embellishments, Rosie is simply charming. An antique eiderdown rests upon the cosy 6 by not quite 4-foot bed and pretty lace curtains originating from Great Granny’s tablecloth are drawn on brass rails. A vintage music box and a wonderful collection of caravan related storybooks adorn the shelves. Look through the cupboards and you will find vintage china, tea and coffee and a fresh water container.
The original iron stove sits proudly under the mantelpiece which is now in full working order after being lovingly restored after 80 years of not being lit. The stove has a little oven which you can cook on, or warm up your croissants from your breakfast hamper. Guaranteed to keep you toasty warm!
Rosie sits in a small, private courtyard in the corner of Fanner’s field and enjoys a vista of Melbury and Fontmell Down. There is a BBQ and table and chairs for you to enjoy lazy summer evenings whilst sipping cider, perusing local maps or perhaps enjoying a game of cards.
Tip toe across the stepping stones to the Tuck Shop if you are feeling peckish and weigh out a quarter of Rhubarb and Custard! Jam jars filled with Lucy's homemade marmalade and hedgerow preserves. There is a tiny sink for your washing up and a fridge to store your goodies. Open up the cupboards and you will find picnic plates, glasses, and barbecue fuel outside.
A stay in Rosie includes a continental breakfast hamper deleivered to your doorstep at a desired time so you can stay snuggled up in bed as long as you fancy. Or, wander up to the farmhouse for a breakfast that needs to be eaten to be believed: consisting of local sausage and bacon, free range eggs from Lucy's own hens, homemade marmalade, local honey and apple juice from the orchard. Taste of the West award-winning, and it's easy to see why. All ingredients are sourced locally and are either organic or free range. All this is only £10 per person so just let Lucy know after booking if you'd like to indulge.
Inside the glampers kitchen you can help yourself to the range of delicious free range sausages, burgers and local ice cream in the freezer (seasonal) - just leave your money in the honesty box and pop them on the barbecue for a very local supper.

We have been living at The Old Forge for 28 years! Over this time the place has been lovingly restored to it's former splendour as a former Wheelwrights and Forge. We are both passionate collectors of all things vintage and retro, vintage cars, tractors, Shepherds huts, and a Gypsy caravan are all part of our collection! Our four children all follow in this family tradition!
We have two beautiful Arab horses (mother & daughter) and a famous donkey, Scrumpy Jack! Also our two labradoodles Pudding & Pie, westie Bonnie and not forgetting the free strutting hens that provide our scrumptious eggs!
We love gardening, cooking, walking & riding and pottering around the Dorset lanes in our 1934 Lagonda.
