Spacious room with ensuite bath in a timber-frame straw-bale building that combines traditional style with modern comfort. Enjoy our swimming pool and adjoining cafe, set in a fig orchard in the quiet countryside of Aegean Turkey.

As seen on television: we featured on "Ons Droomhotel" on RTL4 in the Netherlands recently, and will shortly be seen in the UK on Channel 5 as part of the series "Our Dream Hotel" (date to be announced).

The room is set up as a studio bedroom, and is around 35 square metres. The space includes a private bathroom with shower, a kitchenette area, a wardrobe, table and chairs, a coffee table, and a large sofa. The sofa could be used as a daybed or for kids to sleep on. There is also a private veranda (an additional 12 square metres) overlooking an olive grove.

This was such an amazing find, a little oasis hidden on the hillside above an unassuming village. Our hosts, Sirem and Jason, designed and built the site themselves, and they’ve done an amazing job. The room was one of the most comfortable we’ve stayed in with lots of space, a luxurious walk-in shower and little kitchen. It was quiet and cool with a high ceiling, exposed timber beams and thick walls (because they’re made from straw bales). Everything has been thought-through, from the handmade wooden furniture to the tasteful decorations, the aircon and a cupboard stocked with drinking water. They were also really accommodating when we asked for a floor bed for our toddler. // Outside, there is an infinity pool! As we were travelling with our 2 year old we spent most of the day in and out of the water, but if you have more freedom you can lounge around it on pillows for a more sophisticated experience. We spent the evenings around the pool too, looking at the lights over the valley and the stars. We’ve been to that area of Turkey before, so were happy to spend almost all our time by the pool, but for those interested in exploring further there are some impressive historic sites a short drive away, both the famous ones and the not-so-well known ones - just ask Sirem and Jason for a recommendation. They know all about the area, including trips to different towns or historic villages and which restaurants to try. Sirem and Jason are two lovely people, they are kind and have interesting stories, it was just nice to be around them. // Their place is straight-forward to get to from Izmir airport, and while we ended up getting a car for the hour's drive, there is a direct train to a station close by where Jason had offered to pick us up. The breakfast provided was a classic Turkish feast. When we visited the site was 3/4 completed, with two more rooms and other features still to be constructed. The building area is shielded from view, though we were fascinated to see ‘behind the scenes’ on how to build straw bale houses. September was also a great month to visit as the many fig trees were in fruit and we could help ourselves. We will definitely be going back for more!

After 20 years living in the UK and Germany, my Australian partner and I had had enough of the cold weather and decided to build a guest house in the beautiful Aegean region of Turkey. For many years we've been interested in green building techniques, so it was natural for us to use timber-frame straw-bale construction.

We're new to the hospitality industry but have always enjoyed cooking and entertaining. We hope that visitors in search of summer sun and local experiences will find our place to be a relaxing oasis in the countryside, and return from their holiday with batteries fully recharged.

Between us we're interested in reading, movies, gardening, and history. Whether you want to see all the archaeological sites or just relax by the pool, we look forward to meeting you.
