Hidden away from all the bustle, at the back of the High Street, the Cottage in the Sky is styled with themes from world legend and history; Arabian Nights, Roman Classical, Mogul, Mexico, Scottish Enlightenment. In the heart of the Old Town, your cosy wee palace in Edinburgh, filled with books and artworks... To quote one guest 'A slice of heaven, on the third floor, with iconic views to match. You just have to climb the stairs!'
The top floor apartment is tucked away behind the High Street , in a quiet tree shaded courtyard. I think of it as my cottage in the sky. The one possible drawback is the stairs, to the 3rd floor.-The rooftop views from the balcony, are well worth the effort, Arthur's Seat in the East; to the South, the Dome of the University, which is illuminated at night. In the winter you get sunrise and sunset, To the rear are trees. The living room is wood paneled and has a wood-burning stove to keep you toasty, though that's not needed with the CH. The Art is never boring. The decor Moroccan, Rajistan, Mexican, Classical. Furniture is retro, and comfortable. The small kitchen off the living room has a two ring hob, sink, fridge, microwave, toaster, electric kettle and new crockery. In the bedroom the sheets are cotton and the bedspread linen, There are 2 USB ports by the bed. Slippers and dressing gowns are provided. The shower is off the bedroom, has a good water pressure. In the hall, there is an extensive collection of books, including Scottish History, maps, travel writing, travel guides, science and literary fiction, reference books, and useful local information. An optional breakfast area is outside on the landing and is a suntrap. I live next door, and there to deal with any small problems. I also have been known to help younger guests up and down the stairs with luggage.
You will be in the heart of the Old Town, so the City center attractions are all an easy stroll away. (Castle 10mins, Palace,12mins., National Museum, 6mins., Princes St., 8mins. You will need to consider the stairs as with heavy luggage it can be a struggle up to the 3rd floor. Best to approach from the High street, as that saves on additional steps.
