Spice Village, a CGH Earth Experience, is based in the hilly tea growing region of Thekkady. It offers the experiences of spices that the region is famous for- pepper and cardamom and is also located at the gateway of the Periyar Tiger
Reserve. Its naturalists are experts at the flora and fauna that the region holds.
Spice Village itself is constructed like a tribal village and has several varieties of spices and fruits growing in its sprawling grounds.
Curling around a misty ridge 2,000ft high in the Periyar vastness, we found a ranger's home, with fruit trees, rare herbs and a profusion of flowering plants. And here, we set out to build a resort. A village, produced whole, using mountain spirit and tribal wisdoms as building material. Of course, the comforts of a modern hotel exist, but they never intrude. Modern plumbing, comfortable beds and hot showers find their place, but in a setting stripped down to its natural essence.
If you need evidence that comfort is easily obtained without intruding on Nature, you don't need to look further than Spice Village's cottages. No fancy carpets. Just coir mats on bare stone floors. Modern bathrooms and interiors, but with a spartan elegance based on simple, natural materials and local woodcraft.

Hi. I’m Suresh and I will be your host. My two passions are food and travel. I’m a self-confessed foodie and I love Kerala cuisine. After all, who doesn’t love the food from their home town? So, when you dine with us, you can be sure that you will be served only authentic food, prepared with fresh, local produce, and made with love.
My other love is travel. I guess that explains why I’ve worked for one of Kerala’s leading eco-hospitality houses – CGH Earth, for over 35 years. Over these 35 years, I have protected my land while promoting it. I’ve made sure that my conscience is as clear as the environment. And that the rich heritage of my land gets the respect it deserves.
After 35 years of keeping these promises, I can honestly say that you will not find a better guide or friend in your Kerala adventure. I may be uncompromising when it comes to conservation, but I will go out of my way to make sure you feel at home. Let me know what you imagined this holiday to be like, and I will help you live your dream.
See you soon.
