Glencoe is the most famous of all Scottish Glens and a "must see" for tourist visiting Scotland
In the heart of the Glen is Torren - a privately owned property of natural woodland & tout loch
West Cottage is one of our 3 Holiday Cottages which stand separately overlooking the River Coe
West Cottage ha a total floor area of 60 sq,m
The cottage has 3 bedrooms 2 bedrooms have 2 single beds in each ( any 2 beds can be made up as a large double on request) The 3rd bedroom has 2 sets of Bunk beds and sleeps 4
There is a shower-room. In addition the 2nd bath room has a bath as well as a shower above the bath.
All the beds are made up with a bottom sheet, duvet with a cover, & 2 pillows with pillowslips.
The living/dining/kitchen area has large glass doors giving views over the river and access to the patio area with garden furniture & a BBQ. There is also a small bonfire area where our guests can enjoy a rustic outdoor experience. We have midge eating machines running in the summer to help with eliminating the insect life! The living room has 2 sofas and 2 armchairs a coffee table and a bookcase full of books. There is a TV/DVD player, wi-fi radio & free WiiFi access
The dining table seats 8 with a corner bench and additional chairs. There is plenty of crockery & cutlery
The kitchen has an electric fan oven, cooking hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, electric whisk, toaster, filter coffee machine and an electric kettle.
Our water comes direct from our own underground spring. It is filtered and passed through an Ultra Violet light and is as pure as any bottled water you can buy!
The cottage is heated and the hotwater comes from a central woodchip fed boiler. The woodchips are locally sourced and the wood is sustainably grown.
We have a Gold award for our Eco-friendly management and take our Green credentials very seriously.
This cottage is let on a self-catering basis. No food is provided.
All linen provided is free of charge.
All Electricity Heating & Water is included in the price

There is plenty of car parking space right outside the door of the cottage.
The cottage is a short 10 minute walk from our lively local Pub where you can eat if you wish. The Pub has a large selection of draught Ale and prides its-self in its selection of Scottish Whisky
Fishing in our own Trout Loch - Torren Lochan, only a few yards from the cottage is available to our guests. Fly fishing ONLY. A 1 day permit costs £7.50 per rod if you are bringing your own equipment. A 1 day permit hiring a rod from us costs £12.50. We have a selection of suitable flies for sale. Hire of our boat for a day costs an additional £20.00. This price includes the hire of life jackets. Our insurance does not cover anyone who is not wearing a life jacket. We have a couple of children's life jackets which you can borrow.
Fishing is permitted from the 1st April - 31 October. Fishing outside this period is illegal.
As we are only a mile from the sea, sea fishing is available and is FOC.
There is an indoor Rock Climbing facility only 5 miles away.
The Glencoe Mountain Ski-lift is a 15 minute drive from the cottage. There are further skiing facilities at Nevis Range near Fort William a 40 minute drive.
Hill walking and climbing are all within walking distance of the cottage.
There are also plenty of easy low level walks for the less brave!
Our 25 hectars of private ground is enclosed by a deer fence to keep out Red Deer from our forest. This make it an ideal place to bring your dogs.
We allow 2 dogs in the cottage and make a small additional charge of £3.00 per dog per night - payable on arrival.
There are some lovely pools in the River on your doorstep - ideal for swimming in the summer if you don't mind the cold water. Dive from the rocks into the deep pool and swim up under the waterfall. Great fun!
Canoeing, Golf & Horseriding are also available locally.

We live a short walk away and are always here to help.
Our on-site Manager will visit our guests on arrival to see that they have all they need & to answer any questions.
Otherwise we do not disturb them unless they need us.
I am myself over 70 and leave the daily running of the business to my Manager of 7 years standing though I still manage all the bookings.
I live a short 5 minutes away and do from time to time come along to check on things.
I often stop to chat to our guests who walk up to the iconic Signal Rock and in doing so pass by our garden
Many of our guests return year on year & become firm friends who we delight in welcoming back.

My Great Grandmother Annabella Boswell was born in NSW in 1826
Annabella Boswells Diary of her early life in Australia makes fascinating reading and can still be bought through “Amazon”
Her Campbell Grandparents had emigrated to Australia in 1817 as “Free Settlers” together with 11 of their children including their eldest daughter married to a Macleod of Raasey (Raasey is a small island of the coast of the Isle f Skye) and her 2 children.
John Campbell was a Kinsman of the Earl of Breadalbane and acted as the Earls Factor of his lands around Appin in Argyll. Appin is only 12 miles from Glencoe!
He lived and farmed sheep at Lochend – later renamed Kinlochlaich.
After the end of the Napolianic Wars wool for soldiers uniforms was no longer in demand and wool prices fell. Sheep farmers struggled and it was this and mounting debts that drove John Campbell to emigrate to Australia.
Annabelle relates her Grandmother's tales of the 3 month journey by sea in her book.
The descendants of the many Campbell children who emigrated with their parents in 1817 are scattered all over Australia. One of them includes the Governor of Queensland!
Annabella's mother Georgina met her father John Innes who was also a Free Settler emigrant from Thurso in Caithness and married him. They had 2 daughters Annabella & Margaret.
Their father died very young and the widow and her daughters were taken care of by John Innes's brother Major George Innes. He lived inland from Part Macquarrie and named the Lake on the shores of which he built his house Lake Innes. Glen Innes is also named after him.
The ruins of Innes House are preserved and can be visited and a model of the beautiful house can be seen in the Museum at Port Macquarrie as can artifacts including some of Annabella's clothes!
Annabella has wonderful describtions of life at Innes house in her book including the Piper who piped at breakfast and the convicts who worked the land.
Annabella & her sister were sent to school in Sydney.
Later she met Patrick Boswell, a Scot from Ayrshire and a kinsman of James Boswell the Biographer, who was working as an Accountant in Newcastle. In 1863 they were married in the Cathedral in Newcastle.
4 of their 5 children were born in Australia. My Grandfather John Boswell was their youngest son and was born after they returned to Scotland to manage the family estate of Garallen.
Later my Grandfather bought Auchinleck House and Estate from his kinsman, Lord Talbot de Malihide, an Irishman whos mother was the daughter of James Boswell the Biographer.
My grandfather John Boswell was a gifted sportsman, an Oxford Blue both for rowing and Rugby. He Captained the Scottish Rugby Team from 1891 – 93 and his obituary states that he was the best forward Scotland had ever had!
In World War 1 he, as the Colonel of the Ayrshire Yeomanry, took the Regiment to Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine.
He was a keen Piper and judged both piping and Scottish dancing around the country.
Annabella Boswell lived to a ripe old age and died aged 82 in 1908 She was a wonderful horsewoman – a skill learned from her early days in Australia & from her writings made after she came to Scotland yearned for the rest of her life for the country of her birth – Australia.
We open the cottage for you at 4pm and leave the key to the cottage hanging on the hook inside the door The cottage will remain unlocked until 21.00 after which time they cottage will be locked and access may not be possible
We rent out the cottage for a minimum of 1 night during the week and 2 nights at the week-end.
We expect our guests to leave the cottage in a reasonable state when they depart.
We ask our guests to leave us a credit/debit card number ( as is normal in hotels) incase of damages.
We reserve the right to report to AirBnb for any damages which may occur during the guests stay with us - over and above normal "wear & tear" and will ask re-imbursment to cover the damage.

I do not live in Signal Rock Cottage myself but I am only a 5 minute walk away. Our Manageress Luiza Lipa who has been with us for many years will be looking after you during your stay. However if you wish to see me for any reason then I shall be happy to pop along. I will in any case be looking after the guests on Luiza's days off.
Luiza and her husband Slawek together with their 2 year old son live in the top flat in Signal Rock Cottage and are on hand to help in any way. They will expect you around 16.00 and will be there to greet you. Please let us let us know if you expect to arrive later than this. Departure is expected to be around 10.00 in the morning
