Jon and Amanda's apartment worked out perfectly for a family of 5. The unit was very welcoming, with nice decorative touches, a private patio in a courtyard, and access to nice facilities such as a fitness center, infinity pool overlooking downtown, a rooftop patio, and a small business center. Parking was simple and accessible - don't forget to use the provided parking tag. Jon and Amanda provide ample spare toiletries in case you leave something at home. The American Airlines Center is maybe 1/4 mile down the road, extremely convenient if catching a show or game.
Location wise, this is in the uptown area. There are several fine restaurants and bars very close nearby. A pharmacy is in short walking distance. It would be nice if there was someplace close to grab a cup of coffee or to pick up a milk besides the pharmacy, and a few close casual dining options would be nice, but if you are willing to walk a bit further, there are more options. Plus some coffee and a coffee maker is provided. For our family - including a 5 year old - we found it reasonable to walk to the Perot Science Museum, the Aquarium, and the wonderful Klyde Warren Park, as well as the FREE McKinney Trolley. The kids couldn't get enough of the beautiful Park built over the highway, where, for free, you can borrow equipment and play ping pong, corn hole, board games, read books, etc. Grab lunch at one of the many food trucks and let the kids splash around in the water fountains all while surrounded by some stunning skyscrapers. The Trolley runs through the park and will take you up McKinney Avenue where there are plentiful dining and shopping options. For other tourist attractions, you will need to drive or find other transit options, but highway access is close and convenient.
Anyway, we had a great time here and highly recommend Jon's apartment as a base camp for a family vacation.
