- EXPLORATIONS
The Sunroom Suite is 1 of the 3 listings that are part of Loon Lake Guesthouse which is located on a semi-private lake 8 miles southwest of Hayward Wisconsin.
Guest access to the backyard is via the gate on the left/east side of the guesthouse. Feel free to enjoy the gazebo+lake area, including use of the canoe. Swimming is a highlight for many. Although it's not weed free, the lake is spring fed with beautiful water and an Island. This area is also where the fire pit is located. Please use local firewood. Ask host for details and nearby vendors.
There are 2 run/walk loops on minimally traveled, scenic town roads which connect to the guesthouse driveway. The longer route is a 45 minute walk or 25 minute for the short loop. Both lead to the Town of Beaver Lake Beach, a full service town park with a sandy beach, picnic tables and playground. A map is included with the Welcome Information in your room.
The Namekagon (nam ah COG in) River, designated a National Scenic Wild River by the U.S. Park Service, is a Wisconsin treasure located less that a mile from here. The nearest of its many access points is the Stinnett Canoe Landing near the junction of HWY 63 + CTY HWY E. River highlights include trout and other fishing, canoeing, tubing and kayaking. It's also beautiful in the cold months after the snow falls. [Scroll down to "Go Fish" for more info]

The TONY WISE MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN BIRKEBEINER is located in downtown Hayward. It honors my father who — in addition to many other remarkable achievements — is the founder of the American Birkebeiner Cross Country Ski Race. It cleverly charts the extraordinary 45+ year history of this iconic, world-renowned, cross country ski marathon using state-of-the-art hands-on exhibits including a 3D model of the trail, electronic race scrapbook, artifacts, photos, memorabilia and more. A must see for anyone who appreciates Nordic skiing and my father's colorful history.
The area surrounding HAYWARD'S HISTORIC MAIN STREET has shops, galleries, a winery, post office, outdoor quiet-sport shops, a bakery and restaurants, coffee shops and lots of souvenirs. It's a fun place to while away an hour or an afternoon.
- GO FISH!
Although there’s plenty of good fishing nearby, Loon Lake isn't known as a fishing hole. You’re welcome to try but here's some more promising options. All of these places are remarkable scenic wildlife areas. Time here is well spent with or without the fish. But if luck is with you and you’re looking for a way to cook up your catch, let me know. I might be able to help you with that. Listed in order of distance from Loon Lake.
The BEAVER LAKE BEACH + BOAT LANDING is within walking distance with panfish, northern pike, rock and largemouth bass. It also happens to be a quaint town park with a sandy beach, picnic area, charcoal grills, pavilion and play area.
Another excellent option less than a mile from here is the legendary NAMEKAGON RIVER aka, Wisconsin’s Moving National Park. It’s designated as a National Scenic and Wild Riverway by the US Park Service and known for trout, smallmouth bass, walleye, catfish and even musky. It’s also an excellent place for fly fishing. Stinnett is the nearest canoe landing.
If you want to fill your creel with trout, check out BEAN BROOK + MACKAY CREEK. There are several access points within 10-15 minutes, including fishing from culverts along the county roads. Advanced fly fishing skills are required due to how narrow, overgrown and rocky they are in places but spinners are always a great option.
BASS LAKE + BEAN LAKE, also within 10 minutes, have boat landings that are considered easy to use. The fishing here is similar to Beaver Lake except that Bass Lake has muskies and not northern pike.
LAC COURTE OREILLES (Lake) is a “big water”, premier musky fishery with all around great fishing, less than 15 minutes away.
