At the junction of the diverse, bustling neighborhoods of Clinton Hill and Fort Greene, my large open-plan 1-bedroom apartment is the perfect base for discovering Brooklyn, the better borough.
Tall ceilings, simple and comfortable furnishings make for a great base when in New York City. The wonderful deck opens to a quiet backyard, perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine after a day full of discovery.
Saturday is the best day to start off with the Fort Greene farmers' market, at Fort Greene Park, a 10-minute walk. I like to go early in the morning, before 9am, where dogs can roam free in the park. Grab some fresh veggies and cook a mean omelette back at the apartment.
In the afternoon drop by the Brooklyn Flea, three blocks away, for knick knacks or vintage prints.
At night, you fall asleep to the sound of the ruffling leaves of the many old growth trees, and wake up to beautiful sun in the bedroom's east facing windows (there is a blackout shade, too!).
I love the Clinton Hill / Fort Greene neighborhood for its diversity of residents, great restaurants and bars, and laid back attitude.
Great neighborhood bars include Fulton Grand and Hot Bird, both with great craft beer selections, as well as cosy intimate bars for a good cocktail, The Mayflower Social, Hanson Dry.
Restaurant-wise, close by spots include Aita, for deliciously fresh italian fare, Salva Vida, a great taco spot, and all of the offerings of DeKalb's restaurant row (Roman's, General Greene, Ici, etc.).
There is a Citibike station right across the street, and the apartment is equidistant from the C and G train stops.
It's also an easy 10-minutes walk to BAM, Barclays Center, Atlantic Center for the 2,3,4,5,B,D,Q,N,R trains for the whole city, and LIRR for eastbound, Long Island day trips.
Wolfgang, my dog, lives with me and is a hypoallergenic Wheaten Terrier, but is away when I rent out the apartment.
Nothing specific to mention!
Make sure to leave the bedsheets and towels in the hamper, and things relatively tidy.
I am a French-Canadian, a graphic designer, and an adopted New Yorker. Love to discuss art and politics, and, obviously, to travel. I run a studio that does branding and digital work. I have a bunch of photos of my past trips on flickr (user: humain), where there are also pictures of my a dog, Wolfgang. Too bad he can't join me when I travel abroad!
