Our rustic, "glampy" and unique, family friendly, four story guest cabin is situated in a lovely Douglas Fir forest at the foot of Bastion Mountain in the scenic Shuswap area of B.C. The guest cabin has the feel of sleeping in the trees and many guests and friends call it "The Harry Potter Treehouse". Posh it is not, but the delight is that you will be well taken care of in our forest, including a healthy, home made, farm fresh breakfast.
Our unique 4 story guest cabin is located 10 minutes from Highway #1, 20 minutes west of Salmon Arm, 5 hours from Vancouver, and 4 hours from Banff. My husband, Peter, a talented timber framer, artist and lover of wildlife, combined these three interests to produce the funky design and beautiful wood details in all of the rooms. Please note that none of the rooms have their own private bathroom and instead guests use the bathroom located in our house (adjacent to the guest cabin), a well appointed outhouse, and/or a bathhouse which operates in the warmer months (late March to late October, temperature dependent). Each of the rooms has it's own private entrance way to the outdoors, and they all can be rented separately. This is a fully functioning hobby farm, so you can expect to share the same path as our free range laying hens - in other words, you'll probably not want to wear your expensive city shoes around here - and where there is manure, there are flies. In the summer, when there is usually very little rain, it will be dusty, and because we live in the country, there are insects. Except for mosquito spray (from Om Naturale, a local company), we don't use insecticides, and so it is a very healthy environment for all living things. We have two very friendly dogs, and two attention craving cats, who will likely welcome you upon your arrival - they all enjoy interacting with our guests. Fortunately, our dogs don't enjoy interacting with wild animals (and black bears do live in the vicinity), and so because of them, you will be safe from predators on our property. Please note: they are working dogs and have full run of the property...meaning we do not lock them up (people with dog phobias may not enjoy their time here). We have 10 acres on a dead end road, backing onto Bastion Mountain, so if you are after peace, quiet, getting back to nature, interacting with the friendly residents (human and animal) and a "glampy" experience, then you'll likely enjoy your time here. Guests are welcome to explore our property and the local trails, and of course helping with the feeding of our cows, pigs and chickens and collecting eggs is welcome. We grow our own organic vegetables, fruit, berries and meat on the property and we love interacting with the resident ravens, who swoop in daily to say hello.
The guest cabin does not have it's own kitchen or living room, and so guests are welcome and encouraged to fully utilize the large main room in our house which is an all inclusive kitchen, dining and living room. Our family lives on the upper two stories of our home, so you will not be inconveniencing us. The indoor guest bathroom is located off this main floor living space. The kitchen is fully stocked with all of the cooking implements and dishes you might need and there is also an outdoor barbecue and three burner cook stove, and then a camp fire area for night time roasting, relaxing and star gazing. We also have two canoes, a ping pong table, fire roasting implements, Molkky (fun Finnish bowling type game), Cards Against Humanity (including extension packs), Settlers of Catan, Scrabble, puzzles, Lego, Netflix, guitars, Spotify...all of which we share with our guests.

At least one of our family members is usually around, so there will be no shortage of assistance if you require it and conversation if you desire it. We do love to interact with our guests, and certainly this happens at breakfast which is served in the dining room in our house. If you want solitude, this too can easily be accommodated. We are twenty minutes from Salmon Arm, the closest full service town. Sorrento and Blind Bay are closer, and if you are going to be cooking, there are a number of food markets within 10-20 minutes of us (see guide book for a full complement of grocery stores and markets). Sometimes it even works out for us to cook dinner for you, depending on our schedule (please inquire regarding options and pricing). All food is non-gmo and mostly organic, and much of the food is produced or raised on our property.

We live a very quiet rural life in British Columbia. I have a small sewing business which I do part time, and devote the other parts of my day to our family, cooking from scratch and growing our own food. My husband Peter is an artist/painter and timber frame specialist, and is the designer and builder of our quite unique guest cabin, as well as our log home (which is in progress). Our three fabulous teenagers are usually around when they're not busy going to school, working, socializing or playing sports. We live simply and try to avoid commercialism as much as possible, and love reading, traveling, being in the outdoors, board games, watching good quirky movies, Norwegian musicians and eating good (chemical free) food.
