Wake up to the sounds of hundreds of birds in the morning. Enjoy your first cup of coffee or tea on your private patio in our enchanted African succulents garden. Watch the birds at the many bird feeders and bird baths that have been set up on the property. The Artist's Escape is an ideal place for bird watchers and bird photographers. Over sixty species of birds have been identified on the property. Enjoy your comfortable spacious room with the white Victorian metal bed (queens size and posturpedic mattress) and the crystal chandelier. Your room has an antique writing desk for working on your laptop or doing correspondence. It is furnished with an eclectic mix of antique furniture and paintings and modern art. The Pilot's flat is in walking distance to the famous Nahoon beach. Shop are restaurants are close by. If you are a surfer you are only a minutes drive away from several epic surfing beaches. The Pilot's Room with its own large and unique bathroom has a private entrance through a meandering small pathway and is ideal for holiday makers as well as business people alike. It has a small barbecue facility and seating arrangements in the garden. The flat has a large corner bath with a shower set in natural rocks. The flat is very private and quiet. Free Wifi is included and safe parking is available outside on the property premises. The flat has a TV offering DSTV/69 channels, a microwave, coffe maker, toaster and a medium sized fridge with freezer compartment.
Guests have their own entrance. The flat has a lovely private garden separate from the rest of the property that is reserved exclusively for the guests of the Pilot's flat. There are seating and barbecue facilities as well.

We also offer a variety of day trips in the area that allow our guests to explore the beautiful Eastern Cape. Isabella has made a career doing humanitarian work and she possesses many years of work experience in the international development sector working for a variety of international development and donor organizations in different countries-but mostly on the African continent. She has extensive knowledge and work experience in the areas local economic development, decentralization and rural development as well as the non-profit sector.
But she is a photographer, filmmaker, writer and designer by heart. That is her calling and that is where her talent lies. Photo journalism is her passion. Throughout all her assignments in the development sector she has filmed, photographed and written about her experiences. After nearly two decades of work in the sector of international development she has settled down in the beautiful coastal town of East London in the province of the Eastern Cape.
Isabella runs today her own South African based design and life-style label Chocolat Negro Recycled Design and Art and several other projects. Linked to this is a very unique type of guest house " The Artist's Escape" offering eco-self catering accommodation units. The units are all built from recycled and reclaimed material on a very large plot amidst lush vegetation giving the visitor a"bush feel". They are furnished with original vintage finds and antiques.
Her side project "The Mdantsane Way Magazine", an online magazine profiling the second biggest township, Mdantsane, in South Africa is a direct result of her humanitarian work. The interactive multi-media lifestyle and street photography magazine has gained thousands of readers and has grown considerably over the last two years. With her series of short movies about the township, available on youtube she has been capturing the attention of an international audience.
She has published the first photographic documentary and coffee table book about Mdantsane well.Her other projects include a one hour and fifteen minute movie documentary "Mdantsane - Another African Story" .
Isabella loves the African bush, the outdoors, long talks around a camp fire, good food and wine. With her partner Piet she offers fishing, hunting, game viewing and photographic tours for the guests.
