This little apartment sits above my in-laws' house. The entire house has been re-painted and fixed up- with love by my husband, my father-in-law, and myself. It offers an authentic experience of local living in Cozumel, and comes with good company, 2 bicycles, 2 sets of snorkel equipment, and traditional Mexican breakfasts freshly prepared every morning!
We just put in a new mini-fridge!
We have upgraded the bicycles- they're much nicer for getting around town.
We have installed a hot water heater, so enjoy some nice warm showers after a day in the ocean!
When my husband came up with the idea of repairing and renting this apartment, we spent some time trying to come up with a name for it. Once we started working, a HUGE 2 foot long green and orange iguana scampered on to the property to escape some kids who were chasing it. We thought it was nice that the iguana sought safety here, so we checked it, fed it, released it, and decided to name the property after it. Iguana's House! It inspired the giant mural outside as well.
The house has been repaired and re-painted with love. It is a family project, so a lot of time has gone into making it a space that guests and the family can enjoy!
Once you arrive, feel free to enjoy some rest in the hammock or take the bicycles down to the ocean (about 5 minutes away). Grocery stores are nearby, a beer store is next door, fresh tortillas and fruit/vegetable stores are all within short distances as well. In fact, my father-in-law takes his bicycle everywhere- no need for a car!
**A NOTE ABOUT THE BEDS**
Currently, we have 2 twin-sized bed and one extra large hammock. The beds are pillow tops. The hammock can sleep 1 and was handmade by a family who lives in a very small village in Valladolid, Yucatan.
There is a new mini- refrigerator in the apartment, and we have purchased a set of pots and pans as our guests have requested.
If you want to cook or heat food, there is an electric 2 burner stove top available. If you need to wash dishes, there is an outdoor sink downstairs in the backyard. Most guests eat breakfast here, and just eat out while they are exploring the island, but we are always adding amenities to offer more options.
Some evenings, you may even get lucky, and be able to purchase a few homemade tamales from my mother-in-law! YUM!
The apartment is above the main house. Your access to the apartment is through the backyard, and you will see the stairs to the left. You also have a private bathroom with a shower (with hot water!).
Общение с гостями
We do not live on this property, but we do visit with our kids a couple of times a week in the afternoons/evenings. We live nearby, however, so we will be there to greet you when you arrive, and will be available to help you plan your stay, book your tours, get your bearings with the maps, and help you feel a little more comfortable to get out and explore.
Другие важные подробности
My husband's parents do not speak any English, but we are available if you need help or have questions.
A black lab mix named Toby lives on the property, and she is a sweet heart! She likes to watch the kids at the park from the upstairs balcony. :)
We will replenish water jugs, toilet paper, and coffee as a common courtesy to all of our guests.
My mother in law and aunt will cook breakfast each morning around 8 AM, and this is included in your stay. However, when you leave, if you would like to leave a tip as a thank you to her, feel free. It's just a nice way to show her how much we appreciate her hard work and delicious food!
Also, we ask that our guests and travelers be respectful to all the life here- people, land animals, and marine life. Remember when you are exploring the ocean to never stand on or touch the coral, and to use organic sunscreen (or none at all!). This protects the eco-system. Take nothing but memories, and allow the marine life to continue to flourish for our future generations to enjoy.
- You may smoke outside, but please never inside the apartment.
I am an artist and mom of 3 in Cozumel Mexico. I love sharing this gem of an island with others, and there is always something new to explore and discover. The island holds healing and offers herself to anyone who comes to her with open hearts and minds. I will be thrilled to host you and show you some of her beauty.
I love our beautiful planet and live as eco-friendly as possible. I also try a lot of self-sustainable living projects. Some work well (like my almond milk!) and others fail miserably (laundry detergent). But I live and learn, and I love it.
My main objective in offering guest homes and apartments here in Cozumel is to offer a really unique, authentic perspective on Cozumel and the life here.
When you book one of my homes, please read the full descriptions. Learn about the neighborhoods, check the maps, and remember that none of our homes are ocean front properties or hotels. They are homes in neighborhoods where families work and live. Each property is between 5 and 10 minutes to the ocean by bike.
I hope each guest appreciates the heart and the people of the island. Come with open hearts and open minds, and enjoy the experiences my homes and all the island has to offer, and thank you for allowing me to host you!
