Unfair, untrue and dishonest
It is clearly stated in the listing that meals are optional and most of the guests so far have chosen the room-only option. It is only recently that I offer a bed and breakfast option. Not being a hotel or restaurant I cannot offer a meal by meal system and suggesting a MAP for the whole stay permits to plan a variety of dishes and also offer the best price to guests. I offered Karen the choice between a standard menu and one with seafood for 20 euros more...She chose the latter option and she did have shrimps, lobsters and sea urchins. Karen certainly knows, like most people, I suppose, that those are much more expensive than chicken or (Website hidden by Airbnb) saying that the cost of meals was unclear, that some of them "would have been more expensive than others" and asking for a pricing guideline could infer some dishonesty from me, which is unacceptable.
As for the cleanness of the kitchen, I have a dishwasher and after dinner, I put all plates, dishes etc in it; only remain those glasses and pans it cannot hold, which I leave for the next washing. It only happened once when I had to leave before Karen had finished her dinner that the kitchen was untidy.
I was sincerely sorry when Karen told me she had been sick during the night and as I had to leave early in the morning, I send her a mail (she was in the room when I left) saying I had two medical appointments and I hoped she felt better. She never answered but when she came back in the afternoon after spending the day at the beach, I concluded she was much better. Here again, saying that I felt concerned "after that I told him I could not eat there anymore" is totally insincere, not to say dishonest.
On the other hand, refusing to "eat there anymore" clearly implies that it was the food I served her which made her sick It is true that I first thought it could be the cake (lot of cream and butter) but both my daughter and Jean-Philippe had some and were not sick. And I personnaly ate the rest of the meal with no problem. So Karen's sickness might have been due to either something she had at lunch time or simply due to indigestion (the Christmas meal I cooked that evening was very rich and I served very large portions as the custom is here....
Last but not least, Karen says I did not charge her for any of the meals, which could mean again that I implicitly admit that the food I prepare was unhealthy....
The truth is that when Karen came back from the beach she asked me to prepare her bill and went directly to her room and I never saw her again...I suppose she left early in the morning after "throwing" a couple of notes on the bedside table, which is an offhand manner to leave, in my opinion. But never mind that. I prefer remembering the Karen of the first days and the nice conversations we had at the "pre-dinner drinks" and believing that there was no ill intent in posting her comments publicly.
