Stay in a house that was in the "25 Best Houses in Brooklyn" list!
The apartment is huge, sunny, and has two-bedrooms: one is 180 square feet, with three windows facing south and east onto the giant back yard and garden. The other is 225-square feet with three windows and lovely oak bead-board walls. There's a mudroom large enough for indoor bike storage, a big beautiful bathroom, washer/dryer, and a giant, sunny eat-in kitchen with heart-pine countertops, farmhouse sink, and stainless steel appliances--including a dishwasher and a Bosch refrigerator. The apartment has radiant-floor heating throughout, so it's nice and toasty in winter, and it's the coolest part of the house in summer. There are fans in every room, in case it gets too hot.
The house itself has a fascinating history:
It's surrounded by land on three sides. Five friendly, quiet, egg-laying chickens live in the front yard, which is overlooked by a front porch with a swing. The back yard has a grass lawn big enough for bocce ball and croquet, a thriving vegetable and flower garden, with tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, greens, herbs, berry bushes, apple tree, fig tree, grapevine, and creature comforts like a bluestone patio, picnic tables, hammock, smoker, grill, fire pit, clothesline, and a three-bin compost system. There's also a canoe that wants using.
In the side yard there's covered, secure bike parking, and a super fabulous play area for kids with swing, trapeze, climbing wall, play house, mud kitchen, fort, wagon, etc. The resident six-year-old will be out of town for most of the summer, so the play yard will be quiet...
Guests are very welcome to enjoy the front yard, side yard, back yard, and porch, and are encouraged to participate in the homesteading as much or as little as they like. Fresh eggs are yours for the gathering on any given morning.
