I travelled to Sauze D'oulx in Feb half-term with my two sons (17 and 19). We had a very enjoyable stay at Francesca's apartment. Francesca was very flexible on check-in time. We were met by Francesca's sister, Margharita. Both sisters were lovely - Francesca came with her husband when we checked-out. Neither speak terribly good English, which is not a problem most of the time and especially when so many of the arrangements are made on the web site or on email. It did become an issue though, when the main fuse tripped one evening and plunged us into darkness. Although my initial reaction was to phone it soon became apparent that we were going to have to resort to using What’sApp, which significantly slowed down finding and re-setting the trip switch, and when it would have been good to have someone who spoke more fluent English or someone local who could come over and fix the issue (both Francesca and her sister live in Turin).
The apartment is well furnished and cosy. – It easily accommodated the three of us. The boys slept in the bunk bedroom and although there is also a pull-out bed that I could have used in there. I chose the sofa bed in the living room, which was nice and large and surprisingly comfortable for a sofa bed. My only small gripe about the apartment is the shower, which has a bit of an odd tray and an unusual arrangement to hang the shower curtain, which ends-up being wrapped around you when you use the shower.
The apartment is situated in Jovenceaux which is a small village about 5 mins drive from the centre of Sauze D’Oulx. It may only be a small village but it does have it’s own ski lift linking into the main piste system. You could probably walk to the lift from the apartment – about 400m along the windy road – but it’s all uphill on the way there and I wouldn’t have wanted to walk it in boots, carrying skis. Besides which, the car park didn’t seem to get very full - we still found a space, even on Sunday. If you want peace and quiet then Jovenceaux is ideal. If you want to be within walking distance of a variety of restaurants and bars, you need to be closer to Sauze D’Oulx centre, which would probably cost a lot more. As it is, I think Francesca’s apartment is very good value.
