Twin room in a Victorian house in the centre of Moffat, two minutes' walk from the High Street with its shops, cafe, restaurants and bars. The room overlooks the courtyard garden at the back of the house and has en-suite shower room, TV, wifi, and tea and coffee making facilities. Free parking available on street.
The house is Victorian, dating from around 1850, with a modern extension to the rear. Rooms are spacious and much of the house has been decorated in the last 12 months following renovations after we purchased it. Original features such as cornicings and working shutters can still be seen in some of the public rooms. Your bedroom is modern and cosy with comfortable beds, chairs, hanging space, TV and tea/coffee-making facilities. Your en suite has a shower, wc and basin, vintage avocado!
At the rear of the house downstairs is a sitting/TV room which you are welcome to relax in. There's a wide selection of Scottish and British travel books and maps to browse, plus cupboards full of games and DVDs. From the sitting room, double doors lead out to a large courtyard garden with table and chairs which you're very welcome to make use of (weather permitting!). To the side of the house is a small vegetable garden and lawned area, with another table and chairs which you are also welcome to use. This is a good spot to catch the morning and evening sun.

We aim to be on hand for your arrival and also for the duration of your stay. In the event of our being called away, we will make sure that you are able to reach us and/or that there is an alternative contact person on hand. While staying with us we're always interested to chat and swap travelling - and life! - stories. We both have part-time day jobs, though, so we may not always be able to linger as long as we would like to. We have a detailed knowledge of the Dumfries and Galloway area and of the area around Moffat and are happy to share this with you whatever your interest. There are loads of great walks for all abilities, spectacular scenery, miles of coastline, castles to discover, history and traditions to learn about. If you're looking for a place for a holiday, Moffat is an ideal jumping off point Equally, if you're travelling on business, we're just a couple of miles off the M74 motorway.

My partner, Darren, and I have backgrounds in tourism, conservation and travel and nature publishing, and between us we manage local nature reserves, work with publishers, write travel and walking books, and contribute walking and nature articles to magazines . We have both travelled widely and lived abroad and you'll find a random mixture of bits and bobs from our travels scattered around the house. We love living in Moffat and know much of the area like the back of our hand(s) having spent 18 months researching and writing a new guidebook to Dumfries and Galloway (see photos for a selection of images from the area around Moffat). We really enjoy sharing this special corner of Scotland with visitors and aim to make our home a cosy retreat for anyone who comes to stay, whether it's a one-night business trip or a week-long exploration of Scotland's beautiful southern uplands. We also have a dog, Haggis, who can be a bit vocal in his welcome but enjoys your company once he's given you the once over!
