You are going to love spending time here. We are 3 miles from the Terlingua Ranch Headquarters and its a gorgeous 45 minute drive to Big Bend National Park. You’ll love being off the grid and being out in the wide open space in peace and quiet. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, authors, photographers, artists, business travelers, families, big groups, and pets. If you want to see what off-grid living (in style) is all about, come for a visit!
We invite all our guests to use the double car port. There are two separate structures available on this property. First is a 320 square foot stucco casita. This is where the utilities e.g. sink, marine toilet, stove, refrigerator, ice chest and shower are located. This casita is equipped with AC and a qeeen size bed and can be rented without renting the Yurt for $100 a night plus $30 cleaning fee. When renting the Yurt you will have access to both structures. The Yurt is made by Colorado Yurt Company and is a permanent structure due to it being on a concrete foundation. It offers a queen size bed, a futon and a round lounge chair. It has a beautiful hand-laid stone floor made from local rocks found on the property. With the three windows open there is a lovely cross breeze to help you relax after a long day enjoying the area. The yurt also has a standing oscillating fan and a propane fire heater.
The Views here are stunning! You can clearly see the Chisos Mountains and the Christmas Mountains, as well as Tornillo Flat below, which has proven to be an excellent dance floor for cloud shadows. In the summer months, thunderstorms provide a fantastic show as they develop before your eyes and slowly move across the Chisos Mountains. Sunrises and sunsets here are nothing short of awe-inspiring!
Upon placing your reservation with us we will provide you with a guest access key code as well as additional information including the internet password and turn by turn directions.

Другие важные подробности
You are going to be off the grid! This means you will be using power that has been stored by the sun and water collected from the rains. We ask that you please use these amenities with a sense or resourcefulness. Also take note that you are going to be off the beaten path and that safety is essential. Be mindful of the wildlife, prickly plants, dark nights, lack of cell service, and remoteness from shops, gas stations and medical attention.
Strictly limit water usage as much as possible! The shower is for one minute rises. Each guest is asked to use more more then 4 gallons of precious tap water per day for dish and cleansing purposes. The water that comes out of the tap is rainwater that has been collected. Being that we are in the desert, we do not get very much rain and therefore this is one of our most valuable resources. **A high clearance vehicle is required for this listing **
Cell phone service is hit and miss, mostly miss, but there is (slow) wireless internet on the property. Electricity comes from solar panels, and it is plenty enough to recharge phones and laptop computers, but not much more. Please do not plug in anything that gets hot! This will shut the system down. Drinking water is provided, but please bring your own drinking water for hiking.
PETS are allowed on a case by case basis. Please contact me first if you are planning to bring a dog or other pet. Big Bend National Park (and almost all National Parks) don't allow pets on trails, and so bringing a dog, could be a limiting for you if you are wanting to explore the national park. I do have a policy that pets can't be left unattended or allowed on the bed. All garbage you generate must be taken out with you when you leave because we do not have city garbage pick up set up yet.
-Smoke outside only and dispose of your cigarette ends responsibly.
-Familiarize yourself with the directions to the Yurt.
-Be prepared, you may not have cell service as you are trying to navigate to the house. Fill up on gas before you leave Alpine, It is cheaper and you won't have another gas station for 85 miles.
Also take note that the nearest hospital is 90 miles away.

I have lived in Terlingua for two years. I work alongside All Energies, the area's leading solar installation company. Together we offer a dozen off-grid locations for our friends, family and out of town guests to use. We are happy to offer you a place that is off the beaten path, perfect for enjoying the big beautiful night sky and an opportunity to learn different ways of being off the grid while still having necessary amenities and a few creature comforts. I enjoy offering suggestions on the fun adventures and social scene in the area. ¡Viva Terlingua!
