The mermaid cottage is lovely! We had an amazing, romantic weekend there. The decorations are cute and quirky, and the location is great, if you don't mind a little walking. It's a relaxing 15-minute walk into the harbor area. When we went (early summer), the weather was so lovely, it was a perfect stroll. The cottage itself is situated in a quiet, woodsy area, with a slightly hidden path down to Barrett's Park. It was wonderfully peaceful. The cottage itself is very simple. There's a comfy queen-sized bed that occupies most of the floor space, along with a few very small pieces of furniture. There are plenty of windows and natural light, along with a few pretty stained glass windows. There is a tiny fridge, and a tiny table that might be big enough to have a bite, but there is no microwave or way to cook anything. We ate out at every meal anyway, so it wasn't a problem for us. (Mama D's for breakfast!) There was a pretty solid WiFi connection. There is no A/C, but the place is in the woods and gets nice air flow when the windows are open. (We happened to be there when it was in the 70s, so it wasn't a problem for us.) Cliff was extremely responsive, both before and during our stay, despite the fact that they were out of town. He arranged for us to touch base with his caretaker, who took care of everything for us. They provide a small "manual" with recommendations and so on, very thoughtful owners. There are towels and even some toiletries provided. A few small notes: The outdoor bathtub/shower is in a small shack with gaps in the walls, and it's the ONLY bathing facility. There are neighboring properties close enough to have a good view. So if you're fussy about the idea of walking outside to take a shower, this might not be the place for you! To get to the cottage from the road, you have to walk down an uneven stone path. Not handicap-accessible, and a little risky if you're someone who struggles with walking on uneven surfaces. Those things weren't a problem for us, and they didn't affect our review of the place, but somehow, we didn't quite grasp the shower situation until we actually got there. Just wanted to make sure other potential renters are aware of what they are getting into! And finally, this place will always hold a fond place in our hearts. I proposed to my girlfriend there, and she said yes!! :)

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at the Mermaid Cottage. The outdoor bathtub was absolutely lovely! We enjoyed sitting on the porch and walking down to the water. It's a beautiful, quiet neighborhood, and a cozy cabin. We definitely recommend it!

I visited the Mermaid Cottage in late August for a wedding in Dresden Maine. The cottage is very cute. The location was also nice. The first thing my guest and I did was walk down to the water to swim to Mermaid Rock. In late August, the water was not bad. The town is very cute as well. On our last day we rented kayaks. We ventured to a little island with a lighthouse where we encountered a curious seal that swam right up to our kayaks. Even though my guest and I did not spend much time in the cottage, we very much enjoyed coming back to spend the night after a long day of wedding activities. Most of the guests at our wedding stayed at a basic hotel. My guest and I wanted an more authentic Maine experience and this was a good option. (Beautiful town, nice people, and lots of lobsters)

Beautiful location. Very personal and arty and embracing of nature, but with comfort. It is in the woods. It has a view of the water. It is an amazing retreat. Cliff and Georgejean are amazing hosts. So, so kind and as embracing and involved as you'd like them to be. This is a somewhat communal space worthy of embracing.
