Nestled deep in the heart of Big Cottonwood canyon, resting on the bank of the river’s edge is “The Rusty Nail Cabin”. Step back into time and experience the charm of the original 1940’s cabin, with its solid pine walls, refurbished antique stove & hand built wood bar.

Completely re-constructed in 2012 from reclaimed 130 year old barn timbers, the current cabin is a hand crafted architectural wonder tucked into a grove of pine and quakes.
Lofted ceilings, clad in weathered barn wood planks, lends a feel of rustic warmth and you’ll want to keep an eye out the bank of windows overlooking both forest and river so as not to miss a quick visit from our moose and deer neighbors!
In the summer, head down to the creek right in the back yard and spend the evening telling stories around the camp fire pit. Drag your chair to the creeks edge and dangle your toes in the cool mountain stream after a long day of mountain biking or climbing. That evening, sleep with the windows open, under the poufy down comforter and let the sound of the river lull you to sleep.
In the winter, watch the greatest snow on earth fall by the meter out those same windows as you sink into the leather couch in front of the toasty fireplace after an epic day in the world famous Utah powder. We average over 500” of snow a year (URL HIDDEN) like magic!
There is a loft so cool, even the adults will be fighting over who gets to sleep up there, a chair lift inside, an Aspen tree in the shower, heated floors and you will never run out of hot water with our tank less system.
Come see for yourself and make our history, part of your own!

In summer, ride your mountain bike right from the cabin to the single track trails at Solitude mountain or take a quick drive up over Guardsman Pass to Deer Valley/Park City to access the hundreds of miles of single track riding.
In the winter, ski touring begins right from the front door. For Alpine skiers & snowboarders a short drive or quick bus ride takes you right to the base of Solitude or Brighton ski areas.

We are here if you need us! If you are really nice and are experienced back country skiers, you may be able to squeeze some touring beta from the property owners. Same goes for climbing and insider information on local mountain biking. Owners ski out of Snowbird so if you are a strong skier, come join us for a day on the slopes. We will do our best to provide you with any and all local info you may want..We just live down the hill in the City of Salt.

Great cabin to spend time in the mountains. We really loved cooking and enjoying meals around the kitchen table. The sound of the river and smell of the pine trees was magically. Great vacation spot. Beautiful home.

This was our second visit to the Rusty Nail, we love the house and the area very much. The weather this time of year is perfect, we hiked each day and rested by the creek and fire in the backyard each evening. One of my favorite things is sleeping with the window open in the bedroom, hearing the creek. It's so peaceful there!

The safe was absolutely wonderful! Excellent communication and amenities. This is super close to the mountains for mountain biking or snowboarding or skiing and has an excellent spot right on the river. Our kids played in the river every day and built sandcastles. We are already talking about planning our return.

Charming and cozy. A great place to stay to enjoy both the mountains and SLC. If we ever return to visit the area The Rusty Nail would be our first choice of place to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rusty Nail. The cabin is super well equipped, comfortable, and so thoughtfully decorated. Part of the fun was discovering all of the fun, unique details throughout the house. The shared spaces include an amazing sound system that pipes music in the main room, kitchen, and dining area. Just hook up your own device and you're good to go. Our group was made up of eight adults traveling from out of state to attend a wedding and the cabin was perfect for both getting ready for various events as well as providing a nice respite from the larger crowd. Everyone slept super comfortably. The creek that runs along the property is very soothing--we wished we had more time to just enjoy the space. Thanks for hosting us!

Absolutely beautiful home and location. I only wish would could have spent more time hanging out at the house rather than running around.

Meet Matt and Michele, the creators of "The Rusty Nail". A life time of skiing, climbing, mountain biking and motorcycle riding all lead to their desire to live in the Wasatch mountains of Utah. Matt hails from southern Minnesota, while Michele comes from Winter Park Colorado. They purchased the old 1940's cabin in 2006 and have spent the last two years rebuilding the new cabin from recycled material, old barns, chicken coups, and beer cans. They wish to share with their guests the magic of this place and all the incredibly fun stuff to do that goes along with a stay here. They both have enjoyed world travel and look forward to meeting people from around the globe and making them feel at home.
Matt's life motto? "If I could do better, I would."
