Beautiful home in the hills above Reggio Emilia, Giovanni met us in Reggio and took us up the hill to show us the property. He is a great host, always available to answer questions about the area, his English is great!
We stayed 7 nights, using all 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and the glorious outdoor table/loggia for breakfast and dinners. Deer grazing in the orchard greeted us in the morning. The view from the hilltop is stunning and relaxing, with trails for hiking. The house is clean and very well furnished with all amenities and a great kitchen.
Since there is a forno, we asked to have a cooking class of local Emilian dishes using the wood burning oven. What Gio delivered was the most professional yet personal interaction that was beyond our expectations! Paola showed us pasta making, focaccia, pizza and desert - even a roast - in the wood fired oven! Although an added cost, this was the highlight of our week in Emilia Romagna!
Gio and Paula gave us great suggestions for destinations for wineries, aceterias, cheese factories, salumia, as well as where to buy local products and vegetables.
The house is well situated in the hills abouve Emilia Romagna, we easily took day trips to Parma, Modena, Reggio, Bologna and Venice. There are numerous small towns with local restaurants and bars, as well as family butcher shops and small produce and grocery stores, with a larger supermarket on the road to Reggio.
This is a great property with lots of room and privacy in the hills above Reggio Emilia. Since it's in the hills, it can add 20 minutes to get to the highway for day trips. Also, we wanted wi-fi so we purchased a "hub" in Reggio (with Gio's help). Gio is a fantastic host, very helpful and available for assistance. He has a beautiful family and we can't thank them enough for sharing their home with us!
