Pound Cottage is a small, converted Stables in the little Dorset village of Stoborough. You have the whole place to yourself & Melancholy Lane is a dead end! We are close to the local Beaches, the UNESCO-listed Jurassic Coast and the tranquil RSPB reserve at Arne (star of BBC's Autumn and Winter-Watch). We have a bus service in the Village and are close to Wareham train station, (Weymouth to Waterloo line). We can advise on local Pubs, walks, restaurants, etc.
The Cottage is a converted farm building and was originally where the working horses were stabled. It is pretty small (we resisted estate-agent speak to call it cosy!) but it provides plenty of space for a couple. There is a lounge (open to vaulted ceiling) with a galley kitchen, the double bedroom, a shower room, a separate loo and a separate upstairs area which is accessed by a steep stairway. The Cottage's oldest wall was in disrepair in 1735!
The Cottage shares a third of an acre plot with our House. Our guests have full access to the front garden but have their own private garden area to the rear in the old Village Pound. The Cottage is accessed via the Farm and Pedestrian gates off Melancholy Lane; we are first on the right when you enter the Lane.

We live next door to the Cottage so are usually on hand to help you get the best out of your visit. We know the area very well so can usually help with suggestions about what you like to see and do.
Check-out and Check-in times are specified but if we don't have any conflicting bookings then we are very happy to make these flexible. For example, if we don't have a booking for the night that you check-out, we are happy to agree a later leave time.
- We probably only have two rules. 1. Please keep the main gate shut during the Summer months to keep the cows off the lawn and 2. Please leave the Cottage as you found it. Thank you.
- We have an upstairs minstrel gallery which can be used as office space or just to store suitcases, etc.
- You will have private use of a walled garden which is a great sun trap and this is the old Village Pound.
