Located in the Central Eastside Industrial District, The Clay Hut is a cozy urban cabin set within a hidden oasis. Perfect for couples, solo adventurers and business travelers, guests love the hut for its central location, privacy, comfort, and charm. From the hut you can easily walk to countless critically acclaimed restaurants, breweries and coffee shops. We are just one mile (1.6 km) east of the Willamette River, which you can cross by way of the Hawthorne Bridge to enter Downtown Portland.
The hut sits at the back end of our enclosed backyard. Between our house and the hut, there is a lush, shady garden complete with a goldfish pond and fountain. The sound of trickling water promotes tranquility and helps to drown out noise from traffic and the popular bar nearby.
The bathroom is directly adjacent to the bedroom, although there is no door joining the two rooms. To access the bathroom, you have to take just 4 steps outside from the side door of the bedroom to the bathroom door. An awning mostly covers this short distance, but if it's cold and raining you'll want to put on your shoes and coat between the bedroom and bathroom.
The interior dimensions of the bedroom are 11 ft x 10 ft (3.35 m x 3.05 m), a standard bedroom size very comfortable for two people. I would recommend against a third person staying in the room, unless they are an infant or a small child. The queen-sized bed is made with 4 pillows, a blanket, and a comforter, with an additional blanket in the bottom drawer of the dresser. I don’t provide bedding to accommodate a third guest, but I think a few guests in the past have brought their own mat and sleeping bag.
There is a small kitchenette in the bedroom with a mini-fridge & freezer, microwave, coffee maker, hot pot (just for boiling water), dishes & utensils, a cutting board, several knives, a can opener, wine key, and scissors. I also provide organic oatmeal, coffee, creamers, sugar, and an assortment of teas. The hut is more set up for fixing small snacks or warming up leftovers from a restaurant, although I could imagine someone getting pretty creative. Stuff like sandwiches, salads, cereal, hot pockets, would be easy. The barbecue grill is currently off-limits to guests, but I will update the listing as soon as I have a grill available for guest use.
The bedroom also has a small desk with 2 stools, a 2-drawer dresser, and a rod with 4 clothes hangers. A radio/stereo sits on the shelf with an auxiliary cord so you can listen to fresh tunes from your device. There is a space heater and the room is very well insulated, so it stays quite warm in the winter. The hut doesn't have AC, but there's a fan and it stays cool in the summer as long as you keep the doors closed and blinds drawn during the day; at night you can have the door open with a screen to let in a cool breeze.
The interior dimensions of the bathroom are 7 ft x 12 ft (2.13 m x 3.66 m). The bathroom also has a space heater, bench, and several hooks for hanging towels, clothes and bags. The shower is tiled in pennies with modern fixtures that allow you to switch between overhead and handheld faucets. The water heater holds 20 gallons (75.7 L) at a time, which gives you 20 min of hot water at lower intensity (still high water pressure), and 10 min of hot water at full intensity.
If you decide to book a stay with me, I will send you check-in instructions shortly thereafter. It is important that you read these instructions as well.
Guests may access our yard and enjoy sitting outside at a small patio table under a retractable awning. Guests are not permitted to access the roofs of either the hut or the main house. If possible, sometimes I allow guests to do a load of laundry in the main house, just let me know if you need to wash your clothes.
Общение с гостями
There is almost always someone at home in the main house, whether it is myself, Joshua, or Hami. We're all happy to give you suggestions on places to go, things to do & see. Please knock on the door, text or call if you need anything.
Другие важные подробности
Because the hut is almost always booked, all that we can offer in terms of early check-in or late check-out is storage of your bags in the shed next to the hut. If this is something you need, please let me know, and I will give you instructions on how to access the storage shed.
Smoking tobacco and cannabis is allowed outside. Please use the ashtrays: there is a metal cup on the ground right outside the sliding glass door, and another metal cup on the table right outside the sliding wooden door.
Guests are not allowed to access the roofs of either the hut or the main house; don’t let me catch you climbing a ladder!
Friends may visit during the day. Please no more than 4 visitors at a time.
Currently guests are not permitted to use the barbecue grill, this may change in the future.
Please don’t feed the goldfish.
My partner Joshua and I have put a lot of hard work and love into finishing The Clay Hut. As hosts, our goal is to provide a clean, comfortable, and unique stay close to the heart of the city. We respect the privacy of our guests by limiting our time in the backyard during stays, but we enjoy meeting guests when they come to our front or back doors.
There is usually always someone on hand in the main house, whether it's Joshua, Hami, our dear co-host, or myself. I hope you have a lovely stay with us, and please feel free to ask if you need anything that you can’t find in the bedroom or bathroom.
