Westfacing selfcontained ground floor in modernised, cosy fisherman's cottage. The private shared patio faces the river/beach. Steps to Ship Inn, Crabshack, sailing school, public transport, the town center, Shaldon ferry. I love living at the heart of this lively community, watching the boats/world go by, walks on the beach, the tranquil beautiful views up the River Teign to Dartmoor, gorgeous sunsets, hauntingly beautiful moonlit nights on the tidal waters. Good for couples & solo adventurers.
This is a unique and beautiful place. The river and the beach are literally on the doorstep. There's plenty to do in the area, but you may not want to do anything except enjoy the river, back beach and sunsets. You have the ground floor of the house. A self-contained one bedroom apartment in an original fisherman's cottage on the River Teign, the well known back beach area of Teignmouth. The picture window faces the beach and looks up the River Teign to the beautiful national park area of Dartmoor. Steps to the beach, the Ship Inn, Crab Shack restaurant and the newly emerging Arts Quarter. Two minutes from shops and 5 minutes from town centre. Perfect for walks on the beach, watching the stormy seas, visiting Exeter, or Dartmoor for a walk and a pub lunch. More tranquil in the autumn and winter months. My favourite things are walking on the back beach - whatever the weather. Look out for the seal that plays in the water close to shore outside the house. Teignmouth sea wall and the front beach are also good for storm watching, and surfers catching the surf. You may also spot a fox on the cliff embankment, dolphins out at sea, and a bird of prey high above the cliff near the TEIGNMOUTH sign. Relax at any time of year.
You have access to the whole of the downstairs with your private entrance, facing the beach, in this self-contained ground floor space. You also have a shared patio area out front in this unique spot - where you can breakfast, surf the web or just sit and take in the atmosphere and views. At the moment the small back courtyard is private and can be accessed to leave the property if need be.

I live above and will be available to give tips about the area, shops, local transport, areas of interest, other towns to visit as well as Dartmoor which is about a 30-minute drive away. I will be on hand for any queries (via my mobile or knock on my door) should they arise.
A heads-up: I am traveling in Canada between July 21 2017 and early January 2018. My lovely co-host Jane is taking great care of things while I am away and lives nearby - although not upstairs. During this time Jane and I can be reached via the AirBnB messaging service - but knocking on my door/mobile will not work.

Note: Although some Saturdays/Sundays are blocked/unavailable through September-December this is because it is not possible to do a change over on some of those weekends - so depending on your stay (e.g. if you stay through the weekend) it may be possible to make those days available to you. Just contact myself or my co-host Jane to enquire.
There is a small TV with box. Wood burner being fitted in January also some kitchen updates.
The area is bustling in the summer months, particularly at weekends, lovely lively atmosphere. The back beach area is a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike. Sailing school 2 minutes along the beach. Several recommended restaurants in the town and a new Arts Centre recently opened. This is an area with lots to see and do, and its natural coastal beauty is stunning. Watch out for seagulls!
You will be staying in the heart of the back beach community where much of the summer fun takes place - and across the river - a ferry ride/stroll over the bridge away. Vibrant and lively in the summer - especially so at the many community events throughout the year 2017/2018 - here are some:
Teignmouth Ship Inn Music Festival May Bank Holiday
Teignmouth Folk Festival June;
Shaldon Festival June;
Teignmouth Regatta July-August
Shaldon Water Carnival August
Shaldon Regatta August dates to be announced
'Taste of the Teign & Harbour Festival' September 23rd-1st October 2017; Teignmouth Jazz and Blues Festival 17th-19th November.
We also have other events throughout the year at several venues including:
- Pavilions Teignmouth - an Arts and Community Centre;
- TAAG Arts and Community Centre- events, activities and exhibitions;
- The Oyster Catcher Cafe with Community events including - quizzes, live music, tapas evenings; poetry.
Exeter nearby (30-minute train ride); I recommend 'Cathedral Close,' the museum, Gandy street (shops and bars), the Quay area.
Dartmoor is 30 minutes in the car; I especially recommend Haytor (granite tor) and Widecombe-in-the-Moor (village with good pub food).
- No outdoor shoes indoors.
- No smoking indoors/outdoors on the property.
- If you want to bring a pet contact me and it may be possible.
I'm Anne, Teignmouth born and bred. As a child, I loved to listen to the quiet 'chugging' of the cargo boats' generators on the docks as I drifted off to sleep. I loved both the front beach - for swimming, and the River 'back' beach for a more local feel. I also loved Dartmoor, a 30-minute drive, and its picnic spots, Tors, rivers, and villages. When older I enjoyed many ciders outside the Ship Inn, watching the sun go down. I moved from Teignmouth and most recently lived in Vancouver, Canada for 9 years where I pursued my career as a Sociologist and a health and ethics Scientist. I now have dual UK-Canadian citizenship and spend time both sides of the pond!
I have seen many changes in Teignmouth; we have a new Arts Centre and a thriving arts community, and several very good restaurants. I love the tranquility, the natural beauty and the community here, in particular, the working docks - and watching the cargo boats, from all over the world, glide past my window on a high tide; as well as the rowers and fishing boats come and go. Staying here, you will be at the heart of this community. I love sharing this unique and tranquil - sometimes lively place with travelers and visitors. Since I have been an Airbnb host I have enjoyed meeting people from both far afield and closer to home, and sharing my local knowledge, personal insights and love of Teignmouth and the nearby area. This is a pretty chill place to be - and I count myself very lucky to have been born here!
And now I have a lovely co-host, Jane, who is a very dear and long-standing friend. Jane has been helping out over the last few months and will be taking very good care of things over the next months (July-January) while I visit Canada (Jane and I will both receive all communications). I am combining pleasure with more pleasure - doing some scientific research while away, but also researching AirBnb's across Canada - visiting every province and AirBnBing in most of them. I hope to return with tips to improve your experience, should you stay at my place! In January I will be closed for 2 weeks while doing some updates - including fitting a wood burner. So - look forward to meeting you - or catching up again.
