BROADVIEW is the historic residence of 29 Palms pioneers Bill and Prudence Underhill. Bill took a homestead here in 1928, and established the local newspaper, the first roller rink, and indoor and outdoor theaters. He was a champion of of the high desert's moderate climate, clean air and the health and vitality of its people.
Situated on a promontory in the old residential part of the city, with 360 degree views of the town of 29 Palms, the home includes:
- Four private bedroom suites: 2 with king beds, 2 with queen beds. All 4 have private baths en suite. King Apartments have their own modern kitchenettes;
- A large sun room with a working fireplace and a baby grand piano;
- Media room with large, flat screen HDTV;
- Extraordinary library with many old and historic and contemporary fiction and non-fiction books.
- A fold-down euro-lounger (larger than a twin but smaller than a double bed) can accommodate an adult, tween, or kids;
- A spacious, fully equipped kitchen with a commercial grade, six-burner, two-oven stove, party-sized refrigerator and freezer, and workstations staged for group cooking;
- Historic retro architecture (masonry walls, hand-made Mexican tile roof, quarry tile & polished concrete floors), oriental rugs and furnishings that recall a slower, gentler era.
The home provides a telescope that guests may use or borrow to explore the night sky. Netflix is available via the Internet and there is a BluRay DVD Player. There is also a large library of music CD's.
The main entrance and Visitors' Center of Joshua Tree National Park is nearby. The Park is great for hiking, biking, climbing, art photography,and solitude.
Hosts Michael and Ann Congdon live nearby in an historic Adobe. While close enough to supply directions, shopping tips and local travel and dining advice, as well as to address any problems and provide information about the town of 29 Palms, they are far enough away to assure guests total privacy.
The two key benefits of high desert living we try to preserve at the Hacienda are the pristine night sky and the silence, solitude and serenity of the Mojave Desert. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of both, and not to disturb them with loud or unruly behavior.
A car is necessary in our desert community, since even most shopping is not within walking distance. The drive to 29 Palms is approximately 1 hour from Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), two hours from Ontario (ONT), two-and-one-half hours from Los Angeles (LAX), and three hours from Las Vegas (LAS).
Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree are respectively 50 and 35 miles northeast of Palms Springs on California Hwy 62. They are the two main entrances to Joshua Tree National Park. Twentynine Palms is the last "service" stop on the way to the Colorado River and to the desert route through the Mojave National Preserve to Las Vegas.
Guests have access to all areas of this very large home, including kitchen, media room, sun room, pool and patio as well as six private acres of desert for your morning hike.
We are dog friendly, but guests must inform us in advance if they are bringing a dog. An extra charge of $30 will be applied. Unfortunately, we can not accept cats, because of our allergies.
Общение с гостями
As your hosts we like to greet our guests to provide information about Twentynine Palms, and answer questions about your stay and things to do around town and the surrounding area. While we make it a point to be available for any urgent needs, or simply to provide information, answer questions or share ideas, we respect your privacy.
We are also proud of our historic home and cater to people who will treat it and the beautiful surrounding desert with respect. This includes your appreciation of local restrictions on the use of off-road vehicles due to city regulations. Also, according to city permitting rules, we cannot make exceptions to our occupancy restrictions of two persons per room per night (not including children five years old and under).
Loud parties are not consistent with the residential character of the home and the neighborhood, and only the necessary number of cars to accommodate the renting party are permitted on the site (again, city regulations specify one car per bedroom, a total of four cars overnight). In short, Broadview is not a "Party House" and it may not be suitable for those who are in the desert to "let off steam" with heavy drinking.
Другие важные подробности
Winter in the high desert gets cold! It's best to dress in layers, especially if engaging in active sports such as hiking or biking. Summers, on the other hand, are hot. So our home is equipped with desert evaporative coolers in the bedrooms that take advantage of the dry air, and they provide moist cooling that is healthier than air conditioners.
No firearms or illicit drugs are permitted on the property. Any evidence of violations of this rule will be reported to the authorities by the owners Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises.
As noted above, while we love dogs and have two ourselves, guests' dogs are only permitted for an extra security deposit of $150, and may not be left unattended. Guests are also responsible for cleaning up after their pets outside, and this will be enforced by withholding portions of the security deposit.
Also as noted above, loud music, excessive drinking, and overnight guests in excess of the two person per bedroom limit will not be tolerated. We are, however, family friendly, and children five years old and under are welcome and are not counted against the two person per room limit. A "Pack-N-Play" is available upon prior request (when reserving).
