Small traditional Japanese room with tatami mattress (2m x 3.2m) with great view of sea channel for up to 2 people. It is air-conditioned. Showers and kitchen are in a seperate building. The room is facing east, so you can see a great sunrise.

Miharashi-tei was built in 1921 as a villa, so it is very traditional. It is renovated in 2016. Guests will sleep in futon on the floor in a room with tatami mattress.

Guests can use cafe space, shared kitchen and shower rooms.

There will be staff available from 7:30AM to 10AM, then from 3PM to midnight.

Miharashi-te is a guest house, not a regular Japanese style inn or business hotel.

In order to keep the cost low, we have only limited amenity, no TV or DVD/Blu-ray player. We are located on a hillside. Traveling lightly is recommended. Please see the directions for more details.

Minimum amenity provided to keep the price low. Please bring your own bath towels (you can rent one for 200 yen if you need). Shared kithcen and communal shower rooms are located in a separate building, which is about 2 meter (6 feet) away (meaning, you need to go outside).

We have a cafe, but it does't serve full meals. Guests are welcome to bring their own food/beverages in the cafe space.

Since it is a traditional room in an old building, walls are relatively thin. The room also has Japanese traditional fusuma doors, which aren’t for keeping out noise. Therefore, you may hear neighbour and people talking in downstairs from time to time. If you require complete silence during the night, this room may not be a good fit for you.

While it can accomodate up-to 2 people, if your party has 2 well built people, the room may be too small.

Great position with fabulous views and friendly staff, , would recommend you have mozzie repellent , earplugs, and eye shades, for a good nights sleep, good cooking faculties and excellent restaurant recommendations from staff

This house is beautiful. Tastefully decorated and lovely views. Clean, good coffee and stable wifi. Good value for money. It is a little bit noisy though. The bar downstairs is opened until midnight. Even though the people there clearly kept their voices down (which we appreciated), we could still hear bits and pieces of their conversations, so it's recommended to bring earplugs. The owner is very kind and welcoming. Had some good suggestions for us. The stairs to the house are doable with luggage (15kg backpacks). The luggage forwarding service wanted to charge us 1250 yen each, so thats when we decided to carry our luggage ourselves. If you are reasonably fit, you will manage within 10 minutes. Overall I would totally recommend this place! Thanks Hideo!

We stayed overnight in Onomichi before heading out on the Shimanami bike trail. The steps were a bit hectic, but the view was amazing.

Hideo introduced the house very well beforehand and at our arrival. The location of the traditional house makes our stay a special one. The view of the room is stunning during both day and night. We enjoyed the quiet area and also the nicely preserved house very much.

I had a lovely stay at Hideo-san’s place - Moeri-San who works there was so helpful and professional. Because it’s a traditional Japanese building, the walls are a little thin, so even though I was in the private room, I could still hear the other guests. But it was worth it to stay in such a nice place, the view was amazing and the cafe underneath was cosy and open late. Onomichi is my favourite town in Japan. Thanks Hideo-San and Moeri-San!

Hi I am Hideo. I lived in Seattle WA USA for 22+ years, but loved Onomichi so much, so I visited there every year since 2009. Now I am living in Onomichi. Onomichi is where the Shimanami Kaido starts on the main island. So it is a popular cyclist city.

I love music, movies, and art in general. I also like to discuss just about anything and learn from others.
