I am a Susan Valentine on the left, and my daughter Luan on the right.
I was born and raised in South Africa in a homely family with lots of family on both my mom and dad's side. Sundays were family time where we as cousins had lots of fun playing on the lawns, in the path ways of Grandfather's Homemade Vegetable garden and feasted on Grandmother's Sunday lunches and dishes brought to the table by each family visiting.
This is where my Hospitality Gift was "discovered" and "polished" into perfection. By the time I got married and no kids for 4 years it was TIME to start my own Family. Absolutely in LOVE with Home, Garden, Creating lovely peaceful environments and meals I was in my element. Having 2 of my own children it wasn't enough. You see, I am blessed to be a blessing. After lots of consideration and prayer we decided to foster and had two sisters of the age of 6 and 18 months while mine were fitting right in between those ages.
This is where the Hospitality gift took another shape, dimension as I offered homely safe environments for both my own family and 'extended family" even by hosting the foster kids mother on weekends to create a stronger bond between her and her kids.
After 5 years of fostering and placing the kids back to a stable home with their own mother, my journey as wife and mother continued. Running our landscaping and gardening business from home offered me a lot of time with my kids as well as assisting in the business.
We were away on holiday. Stayed in a Thatch lodge and just in love with South Africa, the wildlife, nature, smallest wildflowers and lots of hiking through mountains resting at cool rivers - we found rest for our souls. One specific night I had a dream. The next night I had another dream and the two dreams continued like a story. As we walked the dust road the next morning to get to the mountain top I shared these dreams with my husband. I then got the question :"What is MY dream". You see - I was always living other people's dream. Always creating an atmosphere for them to be safe and happy in - but what is MY dream??
I searched for 3 days thereafter for my dream, as if a jewel that I had and got lost. As I venture on an Indoor Plant Scaping / plant décor event for a big corporate company I was lost between the plants, water feature and bark, moss and pebbles used for the display.
Being praised by the Manager of the company for the work done and how it all came alive with the plants and features I used, I was overwhelmed by his praise and find myself in a Happy Place in the big truck driving home - singing and praising the Creator of nature, who creates opportunities for us to generate income in trustworthy manners. As I was driving home and singing - one word came from my mouth :"Guest House"
My journey continued, My dream unfold, : Creating a home for the Homeless !! This time for the Travellers, International Travellers, Business Travellers, Semi Long term travellers, Honeymoon Travellers .....
We build this African Silhouette Guesthouse with lots of detail. Added specific architecture styles to bring forth more than just a Guest House - a HOME, a home that echoes a story of Hope, Love and faith.
Today I live my dream. A well balanced life where on one hand we offer a Safe home and Hearty hospitality to the business world, private and every day travellers and on the other hand the provision flows through to the "homeless", those less fortunate than us.
We celebrate LIFE and let other's taste life, reaching out to one another with gifts of hospitality. Not just a home for the traveller, but a garden for those who want a quiet peaceful retreat. We LOVE gardening, South African Outdoor, Alfresco Cuisine and LOVE sharing it with others in the forms of Picnics, Garden Weddings, Corporate functions - we keep it Small and Intimate, Private with respect to our neighbour and guests.
Thank you for meeting me here. Hope we can meet in the near future eye to eye. This Country Afrikaans Speaking Blond turning grey ''young' lady and her staff welcome all, from Families to Groups to individuals.
