I chose Marina's place because I was going to be travelling to Marrakesh on my own. Other solo female travellers recommended staying here, if it was going to be your first time in Marrakesh. I was so glad that I did.
Marina is an amazingly kind, warm and generous host. She made me feel very welcomed. Marina only speaks French, and I speak basic French but we managed to have full blown conversations and her lovely vibrant personality shines through.
The Riad is situated in the walls of the old Medina, in a very quiet neighbourhood. You will definitely need to be met when you arrive because it's a bit tricky to find. Cars can't drive here as the roads are too narrow. Marina arranged an airport transfer for me and met me at the drop off point.
The Riad is rustic and tastefully decorated. It's very close to the Souks and the Jemma El Fna square. I loved walking through the souks even though I lost my bearings a few times. People in Marrakesh are so helpful and friendly, so I always found my way back.
Marina took me out on my arrival, so I could orientate myself. We went to lunch and then dinner in the evening, to a gorgeous restaurant with a roof top terrace. It was my birthday on my third night in Marrakesh, and following a fully day tour in the high Atlas Mountains, Marina took me to Le Jardin. This was another beautiful chic restaurant where I dined alone. However, Marina had secretly arranged for the staff to sing happy birthday to me when I ordered desert-candles included. That was really lovely
surprise and she had also asked the manager to call her when I'd finished my dinner to walk me back to the Riad! On my last evening Marina and I went to the Ville nouvelle (New town) for dinner at another roof top restaurant.
Marina introduced me to a wonderful young man called Adil , who speaks English and French and was her friend. He took me to the places I wanted to visit on the back of his motorbike and dropped me off. We communicated via (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) and he'd come and pick me up when I'd finish my visit to a place of interest. All in all, I had a magical five days here. Marina and Adil made it a very memorable experience that I'll never forget and I will definitely be staying here again.
