Let me begin with the directions. The directions were not clear, and we ended up getting lost. Thankfully, the host was kind enough to come pick us up. However, once we arrived, things got a little messy.
We were entirely expecting to be in an apartment or house, as is typical with Airbnb AND is what the listing states. As it turns out, we had rented a room at a motel. If you know anything about Korea, motels here are LOVE motels. We were immediately disgusted and confused. To make matters worse, the bed was incredibly uncomfortable and came with a lovely vibrating setting. Again, we were grossed out. Additionally, the tv comes complete with a couple of porn channels for your enjoyment.
Now to the condition of the room, the room had a strong stench of cigarettes, and we were greeted by three different cockroaches during our stay. The bathroom was run down; the drain in the floor was completely detached and there was a large hole in the ceiling. When we had left for the day and come back to our room, we were greeted with the strong scent of vomit. We never found the vomit, but it seemed to permeate through the room. There was no one in the front room to check us in or out. Quite literally anyone can walk into the motel without being stopped.
Had we intentionally booked a love motel, then we would have been prepared for this kind of room. However, we used Airbnb because we wanted to experience more of the local life in Korea. I was highly disappointed and felt like the room and advertisement were misleading. I felt very uncomfortable in this place. We ended up leaving Gyeongju early because we were not willing to stay another night.
