We offer fully inclusive holidays or B&B at our small arts retreat guest house in a sleepy riverside town in rural NE Thailand.
We provide a combination of painting /photography tuition and a unique access to Thai rural culture. As we are far from the tourist centres, it is very safe and the people are open and friendly.
Professional tuition is provided by Australian artist Jeremy Holton and you will stay with him and his Thai wife, Waree, in a relaxed family atmosphere beside the Mekong River.
Jeremy will help you to find your inner voice and let the painting take over so that you are painting intuitively and creating exceptional works that grow naturally from your interaction with paint and canvas. This process allows you to escape reality and encourages your imagination and natural ability to flourish.
We provide two courses.
'Discoveries in Oil Pastel' which which Jeremy teaches regularly at Murdoch University in Australia as part of the Extraordinary Minds Project . The basic course takes 4 three hour sessions. It is suitable for artists at all levels from beginners to experienced who wish to extend themselves and learn to take risks to reach their full creativity.
In Australia the class sizes are over 12 people, however at the guest house we limit it to a maximum of four. As partners often don't paint, this usually means only one or two artists are painting, so you are guaranteed individual attention. You will learn to destroy and recreate your work. In our experience nearly every student who does this course produces original paintings of a framable standard.
'Creating in oils' which is only taught at our guest house. This is suitable for anybody who wants to take their art to a new level in a master class environment. In it Jeremy works with the artist to teach them his techniques in oils and acrylics. Typically this involves letting yourself go to become completely immersed in the painting process to the point where you have no idea what you are doing. This is done in textured acrylics.
Then the painting is developed further in quick drying oils so that new breathtaking images emerge full of idiosyncrasies and imagination. Paint is dragged over texture using colour shapers and then colours are enriched and modified with multiple layers of glaze. The results can be seen in Jeremy’s (EMAIL HIDDEN) This course has no fixed timeframe and Jeremy is available to work with you whatever hours you wish.
Each of our guests needs are individually tailored to provide the level of art tuition and Thai experience that you seek. Some of our guests don't want tuition and are more interested in discovering the mystery and lifestyle of an ancient Thai culture which is still practiced in the villages.
This is inaccessible to ordinary tourists and it is only through Waree's family that we are able to introduce small numbers of outsiders into the village community.
The rates quoted here are for B&B accommodation only. You can add to this with full board (lunch and dinner), airport shuttle (1.5 hours drive away), sightseeing trips and art tuition at additional cost.
Alternatively you can have an All Inclusive Package for a fixed price. See our photos for the tariff table. Contact us for more information.
We can only take bookings with at least 7 days as you will need that amount of time to discover the Thai culture and if you decide to have painting tuition. Our changeover day is Saturday as this reduces trips to the airport and as we only have two rooms its very difficult when one is occupied for part of a week. However, we try to be as flexible as possible so contact us if you can't fit a Saturday to Saturday visit in and we will work something out for you.
We have two double rooms all with modern en-suite bathrooms, air conditioners, TV, WiFi, coffee/tea, making, fridge, safe, hairdryer, international power sockets, windows on the the river, private entrances, loaner mobile phones.
