Our contemporary cottage is an unusual find in the rustic, bucolic environs of the Champlain Valley. High ceilings, lots of light, contemporary details and views connecting you to the outdoors from all directions.
Our guesthouse was built on our property in 2005 and sits within a meadow next to an apple orchard on 16 acres. It has an open floor plan in the living space and high ceilings giving it an airy, light feeling. There is one bedroom with a queen bed, and one full pull out couch. One bathroom with a walk in shower. Cozy in the cold with radiant floor heat! The house has a TV and we keep a collection of movies there that we love, but note that we don't subscribe to cable so networks are not available. The property is secluded from the road, but main roads are easily accessible, with Burlington 17 miles north (30 minutes in regular traffic) and Vergennes 6 miles to the south, a cute town with great restaurants, cafes and shopping. Plenty of out door space to lounge around, secluded from our house next door. Starry Night Cafe is 5 minutes south for those who don't like to cook! Many other restaurants within 15 minutes of the house by car. Montreal can be an easy day trip, about two hours north, and Mad River Valley ski resorts are about an hour. Closer skiing great for families with young children include Bolton Valley and the Middlebury Snowbowl, both 30 minutes.
This house is best suited for a couple, a couple with children, or two couples that know each other well. Additional person requests will likely not be accepted as we'd like to keep the experience completely comfortable. Though we love dogs, we find it easier for all if the house remains pet free.
We live in the big farmhouse next door with big glass garage doors and metal spheres surrounding the house, two Rhodesian Ridgebacks (friendly, pretty old dogs), and our 4 year old son. We are both artists with studios on site and grow lots of veggies in our large gardens. Expect to taste what's in season when you visit in the summer!
There is laundry onsite, full kitchen stocked with dishes, pots, pans coffee maker, coffee grinder, refrigerator, microwave, stove, and dishwasher, wireless internet, secluded outdoor patio with furniture, and 16 acres of meadow and woods.
Общение с гостями
We tend to take cues from our guests about interaction--we're happy to leave you to enjoy the quiet and privacy of the cottage or give you tours of the studios, or vegetable garden on weekends, provide tips or invite you to country yoga. We are always in town when we have guests, but obviously go about regular life--work during the week and run errands on the weekend, so not always right on site, but reachable at any time by phone/text/email.
Другие важные подробности
Guests provide their own personal items and food. There is a small ipod player but it does need an adapter for an iphone 5 that guests should bring if needed. The TV is HD with HD dvd player, but no network or cable service.
We don't accept pets, and we don't allow our dogs in the house to avoid issues with allergies or aversion to animals that some may have. We also don't allow smoking in the house. We are far enough away next door that you can come and go without bothering us at all, so late arrivals, early morning jogs, dancing to your music etc are not in the least bit problematic.
We ask guests to leave the house as it was found, be respectful of our furniture, and not to leave perishable food items behind. We ask guests to strip the sheets off beds and start them in the washer along with towels so we can get a jump on prep for our next guest.
I am an artist, mom and full time administrator with Burlington City Arts. I love gardening on the weekends and grow some pretty delicious tomatoes. Keith is an award winning landscape architect based in Burlington and also an artist working primarily in metal sculpture. We love the outdoors, food, music and entertaining guests while the garden is producing.
