This modern house is centrally located near the city of Amsterdam. Currently there is only one single room available (the other two bedrooms are occupied by two super nice Japanese housemates, a man & a woman : )

However...& unfortunately cause we are great friends : (
Kumiko (the Japanese woman in the upstairs apartment) has been given an offer she can't refuse and will most likely be moving out at the start of March so her big room will be available from then if you are interested in longer

Jim's place is in one of Amsterdam's well kept residential neighborhoods. If you have never ventured out of the city center (as is the case with many tourists and short-stay visitors), then you are in for a treat. In just the same way that the built environment of Amsterdam city center hangs together in that way that it does (just the right scale for walking or biking, interesting little secluded sections at virtually every turn, etc.), so too the suburbs are designed to create a most pleasant experience for the people that traverse its spaces. The scale is grander, more spread out, yet with the excellent public transport, it is no less accessible. I had occasion to take an extended walk through Jim's neighborhood where the main municipality government offices are located along with various other buildings including the coolest looking, massive fire station complex I have ever seen. The overall effect of the neighborhood's built environment is subtle, but once you see how it all fits together, with the cheaper (and therefore less luxurious) residential buildings situated in a spatial dialogue with their nearby more fulsome counterparts, you get the sense of how it has all been planned to coalesce into a very pleasing whole. The landscaping also brings the entire package together in a very relaxing way. You feel as if you're living in the midst of a very well kept, thoughtfully planned out park. I mention all of this because I think Amsterdam's suburbs are one of it's best kept secrets. Imagine Hansel-and-Gretel-living in a contemporary, suburban setting. It's very pleasant indeed. Jim's neighborhood is about a block away from the public transport rail lines. You can catch an above ground tram that goes past one of Amsterdam's two major university's (the Free University -- or Vrij Universiteit (VU) in Dutch -- with its cool-looking logo of a winged griffin overlooking the spaces it surveys from the facades of its tall, sleek buildings), through a business park with some amazing jewels of architectural design, on through one of Amsterdam's more posh residential areas, past the Museum square area and on through the city center proper to Central Station. It's about a 40 minute ride all told, and one you'll want to take for the enjoyment of the spaces it traverses. From the same endpoint in Jim's neighborhood, you can also take a more fast moving underground/subway, which will get you to Central Station in all of twenty minutes. It makes for a nice working situation. I was in Amsterdam on a working vacation, and I would take the underground/subway into the city center in the morning, and then ride the tram back in the late afternoon/early evening to unwind while the pleasant greenery wheeled past me, bathed it the soothing blanket of light that one gets at that time of day. There's a shopping center complex in Jim's neighborhood, about ten minutes walk from his house. It's a very inviting environment, with a public library (Holland's public...
