Об этом жилье

Comfortable room with en-suite full bathroom and walk-in closet in the heart of Houston’s Museum District, a walkable neighborhood containing restaurants, world-class museums and zoo, the city’s premier park and two METRORail light rail stations.

The Room
The suite is the only room on the home’s first floor and has direct access to a patio and private entryway, offering the occupant complete privacy. It includes an en-suite full bathroom and walk-in closet.

The room contains a ceiling fan, dresser, table, nightstand with lamp and double bed for up to two adults with high-quality sheets, pillows and comforters.

The home’s Wi-Fi is easily accessible from the room at no additional cost to the occupant. An iron board and iron are available upon request.

The Home
The residence is ideal for those frequenting Houston’s myriad cultural and sporting intuitions, nightlife districts and the acclaimed Texas Medical Center, the nation’s largest grouping of clinical facilities for patient care, science and research.

The home is a three-story, 2,200-square-foot townhome on a leafy and quiet residential street in the Museum District. The second floor is an open concept and contains a complete kitchen, half bathroom and living room. On-street parking is available directly in front of the townhome.

It is less than one mile from more than one dozen world-class museums and only five blocks from Hermann Park, the city’s premier 500-acre public green space. Numerous restaurants and bars and a grocery store are within walking distance from the home. The home's location garners strong walk and transit scores.

The home is blocks from two METRORail light rail stations, which connect guests with the Texas Medical Center, downtown business and theater districts and stadiums for the NFL’s Houston Texans, NBA’s Houston Rockets, MLB’s Houston Astros and MLS’ Houston Dynamo. RodeoHouston, the world’s largest rodeo and barbecue cook-off, kicks off every February on the grounds of the Houston Texans’ stadium. The hospitals of the Texas Medical Center are also reachable on foot through Hermann Park.

Общение с гостями

We are often away so the stay will feel as though the place is yours. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and closet, and the room for rent is secluded on the first floor with its own entrance. Don’t fret about communal spaces.

If we are home, don’t worry. We are clean and look after ourselves.

We have two small dogs, but they stay upstairs with us. When we take them for a walk, we use a different entrance than the one accessing the room for rent.

Другие важные подробности

We have two small dogs. They are an 11-pound Chihuahua mix and 18-pound Jack Russell Terrier mix, respectively. Both are housebroken and have up-to-date shots and vaccinations.

The dogs stay upstairs with us, but guests can play with them if wanted. When we take them for walks, we use a different entrance than the one accessing the room for rent.

The house, the room and especially the hosts were all perfect. Everywhere was very clean and there's more than enough space. The hosts were super welcoming and very easy to get along with.

The "private entrance" was difficult to use. You have to go through a fence and down a small alley to get there, whereas the main entrance was a straight shot. Also, there are overgrown plants by the fence, so you have to fight through them to get into the private entrance. They note that their dogs will be fenced to stay upstairs, but the fence is pretty incapable of keeping them up there. On two different occasions, their dogs came downstairs into my room and urinated on my bed. I started adding additional barriers to their gate, but they didn't catch the drift and continued leaving it easily broken through. The dogs bark at pretty much anything and everything when the hosts are not home. There were a few times when both left before 5am and I was actually unable to sleep because of the incessant barking. The room is right next to the garage, so whenever either of them used it, there was a loud roar. Nate leaves for work around 4am, so that was unpleasant. Also, you can CLEARLY hear the upstairs television from the room, as well as any stomping up and down the stairs or hard-heel walking around the living area above the "suite." The worst though, was the air conditioner. The AC to cool the first and second floors is on the first floor, so when it is on, it sounds like an "airplane" (that is THEIR description of it to me on my first night). They were not wrong. It was so loud I had to wear headphones when it was on or else I could not hear my laptop at FULL VOLUME. It also makes the suite very cold. The kitchen was absolutely filthy. If a guest does not have to use the kitchen, then that's fine, but I was there for 10 weeks and had to use it daily. On most days, the sink was filled so high with old, dirty dishes that I could barely wash my own. Even when the sink was cleared, the actual sink itself was caked in food grime. The stove was covered in grease splatter and used pans filled with grease were left sitting on the stove top almost perpetually. The counters were always grimy and covered in crumbs. The silverware drawer had so many crumbs in it, the first thing I did was go out and buy my own plastic silverware. The fridge was disgusting - food spilled on all the shelves and left to congeal, plus there were dead gnats INSIDE the fridge. Oh, the gnats. There were gnats EVERYWHERE. They even made their way onto my floor even though I had no food down there. They also have 2 dogs, and from the looks of things they've never swept the dog hair off the floor. Luckily the room and bathroom I used were clean enough, but the drawers of the chest provided were quite dirty so I did not use them.

Ответ от Nathaniel:
-Jen’s dog also incessantly barked, both at my fellow townhome complex neighbors and myself and girlfriend, when she was not in the house. I did not raise the issue because, as a dog owner myself, I know they bark. -When Jen used the kitchen, she frequently left standing water on the counters and floors. I regularly cleaned up the standing water to avoid water marks or stains. -Jen frequently left all the lights on in the kitchen area. I never raised the issue because I was trying to keep a strong host-guest relationship, but that was my mistake. -Jen went through frequent periods of silent treatment, and after days we determined it was best to give her space. She did not voice most of the complaints she levied in the review to us. We had even asked her numerous times about her stay, and she would offer only muted responses. -Our dogs get out when the chair we use to keep the gate is re-arranged so the chair back faces wall, as opposed to our method of placing the side of chair against the gate. When the chair is placed with chair back against the wall, the tilted angle of the chair back gives a few inches of room for a dog to wiggle his or her way through. When the side of the chair is placed against the gate, the chair legs are soundly against the gate. With Jen re-arranging the chair so its back was against the gate near daily, her dog was frequently found upstairs upon my return home. The “extra barriers” she added in effect allowed both her and my dogs access. -Jen’s dog also regularly snarled and snapped at my dogs when in the communal spaces. -I requested Jen be responsible for her dog’s walking and bathroom needs prior to accepting her reservation, and she agreed to do so. Near daily I would come home to urine or poop on the first floor walkway adjacent to her room. Being a host wanting a good host-guest environment, I cleaned up the urine and poop. Doing this was obviously my mistake. I should have sought a resolution from her on the issue, but again I decided to clean up the messes in an attempt to bridge a gap that I felt was developing between host and guest. -When Jen did walk her dog, she regularly left the front door unlocked. I would not consider my neighborhood dangerous, but leaving a door unlocked directly circumvented the house rules. Our personal property was put at risk by these actions. -I informed Jen of the air-conditioner’s noise level and placement upon move in. She did not levy complaints until the review period. -We asked about our early morning exits early in the stay, and Jen replied that they did not bother her. Obviously, they did. But she decided to close off all communication. -The greater Houston area did suffer two catastrophic flood events that resulted in weeks of standing water and road closures during her stay, and the townhome is a half-mile from a major bayou, so gnats and mosquitos do become more prevalent when there are long periods of standing water. I did advise her to try and reduce the amount of time exterior doors were open to reduce the number of insects getting inside the home. The flooding also upset the city’s ability to collect garbage and recyclables, so that increased the insect problem. The city alerted homeowners of the pickup upset, but Jen was not speaking to us at that time. -My accommodation is also listed as flexible, so if she loathed the stay so much she could have taken action. She had voluntarily closed off communication at that point, so I was unable to gather any viable information. I wish Jen a great future moving forward, and I apologize things were not to her liking.

Great experience, both Nate and his girlfriend were very nice and hospitable. The listing was exactly as described and it even had its own entrance so I felt at ease if I came home a little later.

We had the pleasure of staying at Nathaniel's place to attend a conference in Houston. The house sits at a convenient location, about 10 minutes away from Rice University. Although we never had the opportunity to meet in person, Nathaniel was quick to respond and we didn't run into any issues. The only concerns we had were that the air mattresses were a little small to fit an adult, and the blankets needed to be washed. Overall, for those of you who need an affordable place to stay in Houston, I would recommend this place.

I am review oilfield documentation and write content, two very different jobs. When not working, I love to read, write and get outside. I live in the Museum District to be near Herman Park, Houston's best public green space.

My girlfriend and I have two dogs -- an older, blind Jack Russell Terrier mix and a younger, spunk Chihuahua mix with a ton of personality.
