This site concerns the rent of my family house in Corfu. The house has been constructed more than a century ago and is mainly designated to live within it. It is not a house constructed for the tourism industry. In the case you are going to use it please remember it.
The house is at the town of Lefkimmi, the second biggest on the island of Corfu, 40km south from the principal town. There is a port directly connected to Igoumenitsa (6 or 7 round trips daily, 1 hour of shipping); otherwise you can reach it in 1 hour driving from the city of Corfu (1,5 hours by bus, roughly a bus every hour).
Lefkimmi is a town of 10000 representing the economic and administrative center of the south part of he island (there is also a small hospital). The town is divided in small boroughs and although is quite a characteristic small greek village is not at all a tourist attraction. In the case you decide to stay in this house (which is located at the borough "Potami") you are going to experience the quiet life of a small greek village and rarely meet any foreign tourist (if any). There are small restaurants nearby as well as coffee shops and stores, but there is no night life (at least of the type the tourists usually look to). The locals have a very active cultural life, but you have to ask for.
The house is at the center of the borough which is roughly 1,5km from the sea. There are at least three beaches you can easily reach. The nearest (which is also the favorite of the locals) is at Bouka, for the other ones you have to go through the dense olive trees bushes which characterise the whole island. You can reach any of such beaches walking (if you like so and is not that hot!!), but also by bike (there are five for free at the house), by car (obviously) and finally by boat, since there is a channel from the sea to to the center of the borough (less than 50m. from the house) where you can go even with medium size boats. Behind the house there is private space for two cars.
The house is on two floors. At the first floor there is a large "veranda" from which you enter the house directly in a large living room (also kitchen) and from there to a bedroom (2-3 beds). There is also a small WC at this level. From the living room, using a staircase, you access the second floor where there are two bedrooms (a twin bed, two single beds and a bed for small kids) besides a large bathroom (including a bath). There are roughly 100 sq.m to use in the house.
All necessary linen is there. There is a telephone, internet connection, a washing machine, a dishwasher, a fridge, an oven and all the necessary for cooking and eating. There is no air-conditioning (to our opinion useless thanks to the age and structure of the house). Unfortunately the house does not fit at all for people with disabilities (there is no way to remove the barriers).
