I'm appreciative that Shayne mentioned the things he liked about his stay, like the built-in fridge and gourmet kitchen, but am a bit frustrated he blamed me for locking his son in a bedroom. Even though it was Memorial Day and I was camping with my family, I picked up the phone right away. He was completely hysterical and screamed that he locked his sleeping son in the bedroom. His wife had already called the police, he said, but he'd likely have to break a window or break down the door before they arrived (if his son woke up). I asked if his son was hurt or in danger and was concerned. Shayne said that he had placed his son down for a nap when he realized he locked the door and closed it. I informed Shayne that I kept a spare key hidden for just such an instance, but he yelled that he was going to break the door down if his son woke up. I calmly explained that if he broke our door or window he'd be responsible for paying for it. He abruptly hung up. I followed up with a text to be sure he was able to gain access to the bedroom. He replied that all was well. I later found out that he had turned our lawn mowing service away during his stay one afternoon because he was napping. I discovered this when he called and asked if I would send the mowing company back later that afternoon, since “it needed to be mowed and he had turned them away due to his nap”. The lawn service company we contract with was gracious enough to make a special trip and accommodate his request, but they did end up charging us a penalty to do so. Overall, I believe Shayne received exceptional customer service during his stay, in spite of being a very high maintenance and ungrateful individual.
