My name is René…
I am a Dutchman living in Asia for 20 years. My first three years here were spend in Brunei Darussalam. January 2000 I moved to Hong Kong which I call home now for 17 years.
It is here in HK that I found the love of my life, Maria, whom I married in 2009. We are now the proud parents of two amazing and beautiful daughters, 6 & 5 years old.
Eighteen years ago I had a business outing from Brunei to Bali. It is on that trip that I fell in love with the island, it’s beauty of people and nature.
A few years later, when I was already living in Hong Kong, I rented long term a house in Sanur which up to today is our “second home” in Asia. I enjoyed the house for many years as a single man and later I had many trips there with Maria.
When our kids were born (15 months apart) we had less time to travel. Also at that time I had started my own business and this was growing and that occupied large amounts of my time. This all made that we did not use the Bali House as much as before.
We rented it out to friends and “friends of friends” and the feedback we received from all these friend guests at the house was always amazing and we felt that we should share the house with more people now we could not use it as much.
This all coincided with AIRBNB becoming bigger and well known in the world. I loved the platform approach because of the “honesty based system”. Our house is decorated as our home with “good stuff” and our taste so we always wanted to make sure we had good and appreciative guests at the house.
This was the start of now many years of hosting on Airbnb! (Since 2011)
