We loved Andrea's house. Our family gathered there for a graduation, and everyone who walked in exclaimed about the lovely space. It's an older house that has been totally re-done and now has a white, light, shine. Everything was comfortable. Our host family was kind and super considerate. We were the first guests and felt honored by that. My Mother, who is 85, came to brunch one of the mornings. In anticipation of her arrival, and to help make the entrance safer and easier for her, Andrea had a staircase built from the parking area to the back door. How thoughtful! Much appreciated!
Out the windows, large maple trees spread, along with their spring green leaves, a sense of being sheltered under their presence. Across the road is a park and a creek beyond it, and beyond that is an occasionally used train track that, when a train does purr by, fixes you in the historical context of the functioning town. We only heard a train, once as I remember, when we happened to be resting and enjoying ourselves on the big front porch. It was a great weekend for the family and our graduate, with the heart of our celebrations taking place at Andrea's "Small 1 bedroom house." Shiny, beautiful kitchen for the meals we prepared, and a welcoming space for the comfortable time spent together. Long wooden table. Lovely beds with comforters. Rocking-chair porch.
The adorable Jonesborough town center is about a two-minute hop away on foot. With a pedestrian bridge, parks, quaint historical buildings, and some interesting shops, plus the whole story-telling tradition of the town, this was a great background for the week-end. There was music on the square one evening and a farmer's market the next morning. We enjoyed the healthy home-grown vibe (lots of greens and flowers), the art, music, and creative energy of place. Coffee shop, farm market store for days when there is no farmer's market. Murals, ice cream, candy and specialty chocolates. All good. From our college graduate to our matriarch, we all enjoyed ourselves.
Thank you Andrea and family!
