Другие важные подробности
In addition to all that it has to offer, Hermanus is the heart of the Western Cape's Overberg region, which covers the southernmost part of Africa and has kilometers of pristine coastline. In addition it offers world-class wines, wonderful whale watching, contrasting landscapes, ample sporting and adventure options, as well as the magic of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, which meet at Africa's most southerly point at Cape Agulhas. Besides the sun, sea and sand, a plethora of culinary experiences and fine local wines await your discovery across the Overberg.
As part of the World Heritage Cape Floral Kingdom, the Overberg is home to abundant indigenous fynbos, which in turn offers many mountain walking and hiking experiences and is a paradise for wild flower enthusiasts and bird-watchers.
Between July and November, southern right whales arrive from Antarctica to mate and calve in the relatively calm waters of Walker Bay. Hermanus on the shore of Walker Bay is recognized as being the best land-based whale watching destination in the world. There are also boat and airplane whale viewing options available for the more adventurous.
The rich history in the Overberg is depicted in museums across the region, some of which occupy an entire village. Among them are the whale museum in Hermanus, the shipwreck museum in Bredarsdorp (on the road to Cape Agulhas) and the historic mission villages of Elim and Genadendal.
Some 20kms from Hermanus is the picturesque town of Stanford, situated on the banks of the Klein River. Stanford's surrounding valleys feature many wine estates, an award-winning cheese maker, a microbrewery, numerous restaurants and river cruise bird watching options. For a special experience visit the second oldest working lighthouse in South Africa museum at Cape Agulhas.
Other activities on offer are shark cage diving - an adrenaline fix for adventure lovers, kayaking trips on the sea or the beautiful Klein river lagoon and a range of spectacular mountain walks in the Fernkloof Nature Reserve.
Whether you choose to spend a day on one of the Blue Flag beaches, playing a round of golf on the 27 hole championship course, visiting some of the country's best wine estates in the Hemel en Aarde valley, or one of the many option the surrounding Overberg region has to offer, Hermanus has something for everyone and while it may no longer be a village, the atmosphere and scenery of this vibrant town offers a lifestyle few places can match.
