My husband, Randy Langendorfer, and I purchased the property, which was a small family dairy, in 2005.
We had busy and complicated lives in San Francisco and needed a big change. As is it turns out, the big move to living in the rainforest of Costa Rica, did not exclude the busy and complicated part... however, we have had the freedom to accomplish what would have been impossible in California.
We named our project Monte Azul, which came from our family trips as a child. Mom, Ana Lucia, would point out the landscape from the airplane, commenting on how the mountains in Costa Rica were so green, that they actually appeared blue. And she was right!
The principal focus of the project is art, in all its manifestations. We firmly believe that creativity is one of our biggest strengths as a society and as a species. Through creative problem solving, nothing is impossible.
For 6 years we owned and operated Monte Azul boutique hotel, a small but highly acclaimed destination, receiving accolades from the most discriminating travelers. We earned special recognition from such publications as Condé Nast Traveller, Food & Wine, TripAdvisor, for our excellent service, restaurant and stylish facilities.
Today, we focus on the Monte Azul Artisanal Cheese Company, which has grown by leaps and bounds. We have an operating goat dairy on site, which produces milk for our 15 types of cheese. We also continue to invite artists to stay and work in our studios, and when artists are not present, the Casitas are available to visitors.
Each Casita is equipped with a kitchenette where guests may prepare their own meals and try the amazing assortment of locally produced fruits and vegetables. We'll even do the shopping for you, if you like.
We are happy to share our little but of paradise with you, it's our vision of how everyone should live: surrounded by nature, art and the people you enjoy.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
