Located just 1.5 hours from DC, The Fort is a perfect weekend retreat. It's located at the end of a tiny gravel road and has magnificent views of the Fort Valley mountain ridge and valley. Activities abound: outside fireplace (did someone say S'mores), miles of hiking trails in adjacent GW Nat'l Forest, Shenandoah Skyline Drive, fishing in Passage creek, nearby wine tasting and Luray Caverns. Or just cozy up by the indoor fireplace with a book and relax.
The fireplace makes evenings and mornings really cosy
A screen in porch with porch-swing and Adirondack chairs offer outdoor breakfast and dining
Walking access to GW hiking trails
Two bedrooms with comfortable queen beds and fabulous views
Fully equipped kitchen
Guests have access to the entire cabin, outdoor fireplace, bean-bag playing area, and outside picnic table
We love our little cabin and expect guests to take good care of it while visiting. That includes the nature and wildlife around it as well as respect for the neighbors. Leave the place as you find it in other words.
If you're bringing a pet please keep them out of the carpeted bedrooms and clean up after them in the yard.
Please don't leave food waste around, it attracts bears (outside) and bugs (inside).

I work at the World Bank in Washington DC on international development, renewable energies and climate change. I love being outdoors, hiking and fishing and enjoy cooking and travel.
My husband Ryan and I live in DC with our baby son Oliver but try to spend most of our free time in our cabin in Shenandoah. We also try to spend a lot of time in Ryan's native 'Down East' in Maine or in Sweden where I'm from.
