Our renovated croft cottage is set in a coastal location on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis. Situated in the crofting village of Bac, where my father's family are from, the 2 storey cottage has an outlook to Broadbay at the rear and views over croft land to the front. Although in a rural location there are other houses around the cottage.
Very peaceful and a great base for exploring Lewis and Harris. There are lots of beautiful sandy beaches nearby and further afield. Stornoway, the main town on the island, is only 10 minutes drive away and this is where the ferry comes in. If you come via the ferry to Harris the cottage is still only 40 minutes drive away. The airport is 20 minutes drive.
Plenty of restaurants and cafe's in Stornoway and some very good ones further afield which are worth visiting on a day trip away. Two large supermarkets and other specialist food shops in Stornoway for groceries.
There is a local shop, newsagent and petrol station, and pharmacy.
Local bus service to Stornoway will pick up and drop off outside the cottage.
There are 3 bedrooms, 2 double, 1 twin. The doubles have standard double sized beds. We have a Baby Bjorn travel cot, a highchair, fireguard and stairgate. All bedding and linen is provided except cot bedding) along with a welcome hamper and toiletries.

The kitchen is well equipped with a dining table seating 6, gas range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge with freezer compartment and all other items you would expect in a modern kitchen.
Outdoor washing line. Large garden to front and rear, Off road parking for up to 3 cars. Outdoor BBQ. Lots of books and dvds, some toys and books for children.
Large shower located on the ground floor next to the large double bedroom with drench shower head and hand held hose attachment.
Storage or panel heaters to all rooms.
Our house has been decorated with style in mind and we have been careful to use local materials (Harris tweed) and products where possible. Each room has been given its own character (in a good way) and we have chosen a bright but tasteful colour scheme throughout. We have included some quirky furnishings and touches to add a bit of interest and set us apart from other rental properties. If you appreciate interior design we think you will love the cottage.
Great cottage for a family break but we have had honeymoon couples, groups of friends and families staying since we began our rental adventure. The general feedback is that we have created a home from home with a very pleasing interior and some nice extra touches.
The cottage feels spacious with 4 staying and a bit on the cosier side if we have a full house but it is a cottage after all : )

We don't live on the island so we won't be able to meet any guests.
We would be most grateful if guests could leave the house as tidy as possible with all dishes washed and put away and the fire tidied out before they depart. Departure time is 11 am and we need guests to honour this as we have regular guests; replacement guests often arrive the same day as a departure and our housekeeper needs adequate time to be able to service the house properly. We expect guests to respect our neighbours and keep noise to a minimum as there are private residents residing nearby. Sunday is, according to tradition, a very peaceful day on the island and there are limited services and amenities available outwith the main town of Stornoway. Local people adhere to the tradition of keeping Sunday as a day of rest.
Entry time is any time after 3.30 pm.
Unfortunately we are unable to greet guests as we do not live on the Isle of Lewis. Access arrangements are explained when booking is made and deposit paid. Detailed directions are also provided then.
My parents are both from the Isle of Lewis and although born there I grew up on mainland Scotland. We bought the croft house a few years ago in a dilapidated state as it had not been lived in for 20 years with the idea that we could have it as a family bolthole for my parents, my brother's family and our own and to rent it out when we weren't using it. Until recently I worked full time as a lawyer but now look after our two little girls on mainland Scotland. We love encouraging people to come and enjoy the beauty of the Western Isles, particularly Lewis and Harris where the beaches and scenery are second to none.
