We loved Sam's place. A short walk from Echigo Yuzawa station (but at the top of quite a steep hill) and amazing views over the mountains. The flat was clean and spacious, lots of bedding, kitchen equipment, towels, washing machine. For a Japanese flat it was also relatively spacious, with a big comfortable living/dining room with lots of room to spread futons for sleeping, as well as a separate bedroom. We stayed in the summer when the condo was very quiet. There's a swimming pool downstairs and a wonderful hot spring bath on the 10th floor (usually empty). The condo staff were polite and friendly, as were the townspeople. The town is small but the restaurants are foreigner friendly with English menus. We used the flat as a base for going to the Fuji Rock Festival, but it is a 40 minute shuttle bus ride with long queues, so if we were going to Fuji Rock again we might try to stay in Naeba. This would be a great base for skiing or just enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery.
