Skywind Farm is on the slopes of Mauna Loa, an active shield volcano and one of the largest volcanoes on Earth. The farm is situated between two lava flows from the early 1900's, and thrives from the volcanic soil of the island.
The farmhouse was originally built in 1948 and is adorned with lava rock walls circa old Hawaii. The space has been updated with bright colors and modern furnishings yet still holds the charm of the original farmhouse. Close to secluded beaches, historical national beach parks, and the Kilauea volcano crater, it's a great location to explore several areas of the island. Although our guests find that they never have to leave the farm to enjoy the relaxing vacation that they need.
Guests on Skywind Farm can enjoy the private backyard oasis including an indoor/outdoor remodeled bird aviary for reading, yoga, or meditation, a gazebo with ocean views for morning coffee or evening sunsets, night time lighting, and lounge chairs for enjoying the sunshine and views. Inside the farmhouse, we offer a well equipped kitchen- including a french press and coffee grinder.
We offer walking tours of the farm for our guests to have access to the 5+ acres of avocado and macadamia nuts trees, and guests are always welcome to pick fresh avocados from the trees near the farmhouse.
Wifi is available throughout the home and in the gazebo. Guests may use the Apple TV to access Netflix, HBO, movies, TV shows, and more on a 40" flatscreen TV in the living room.
Laundry is available for for guests that stay longer than 5 nights.

First and foremost, we respect your privacy. We view the farm as a place to get away from it all and want our guests to feel free to enjoy the farmhouse as their own. We welcome ALL with open arms. We hope you feel at home here!
Our amount of interaction is determined by you. We usually greet guests upon arrival, give a short tour of the house, answer any questions, and then give our guests as much privacy as possible. We live in a separate home on the property, so if at any time our guests need anything, from extra towels to sight-seeing advice, we are just a phone call away.

As guests at Skywind Farm, you will be staying in a tropical country home at a higher elevation. We are located on the slopes of Mauna Loa at 2100 ft above sea level. This can make for some colder nights especially in the winter months, please plan accordingly. We have a portable space heater and extra blankets if needed. However, most of our guests have found that the upstairs rooms stay pretty cozy, even on our colder nights. Also due to the tropical setting, our home is regularly treated for bugs, but don't be surprised if you meet a small critter from time to time.
Skywind Farm has a sustainable water system running from catchment. This means our water is collected from the rain and stored on property. While on the farm, please use water consciously. You may find the water less harsh on your skin and hair as it has not been treated with chlorine or other additives. We provide purified drinking water for our guests to enjoy that comes from a near-by Hawaiian spring!
